It is with profound sadness and shock that we announce the death of Ida Lillian (Lilla) Henry, which occurred at the Civic hospital, Ottawa, on August 19, 2024 after a brief illness. She was born in Black’s Harbour, New Brunswick on August 17, 1949, to the late Albert and Lois Henry. She is survived by her sisters Ruth (Blair) in Saint John, NB, and Mary-Ellen (Bob) in St. Stephen, NB. She spent her younger years in St. George, NB graduating from Eastern Charlotte Regional High School. She later attended Teacher's College in Fredericton, NB. There she met and married her husband Gary who was then a member of the RCMP in Fredericton. While residing in Fredericton, she taught grade 2 at the Gesner Steet Public School in Oromocto, NB., retiring to raise the children. They had three children Christopher (Jennifer), New York, Lea-Anne (Murray), Edinburgh, Scotland and Mark (Krista), Ottawa. They had five grandchildren, Benjamin, Hannah, William, David and Sophie, whom she loved dearly as Nanny Henry. She and Gary travelled to Scotland, England, Sardinia, Las Vegas, New York, Florida, Mexico and The Dominican Republic as well as on Caribbean cruises. She enjoyed playing sports like basketball, swimming and diving. After moving to Ottawa in 1975, she worked many years as a public servant with the RCMP. As per her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a private family graveside service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern (CHEO) She will be greatly missed by her many friends and family.

Our family sends sincere sympathies to Uncle Gary and the family.
Aunt Lilla's smile accompanied by her laughing eyes is how I always think of her.
Only half a year older than myself led to teasing for my Auntie.
A fond memory from back in 1969, I was engaged, you two were just married and you'd come to Toronto to visit our family.
The night after New Years the 4 of us went to see Brenda Lee, she was performing at a hotel. A wonderful memory.
Rest in Peace Aunt Lilla, love you.

What a beautiful picture of my Aunt Lilla. She’d give that little smile when I called her that. Rest easy & next time I’m at Rama I’ll think of you. 💐

Aunt Lilla was my cohort in confidences when I was growing up. I've often been referred to as Little Lil by my mother many times. It has always made me smile. Being the flower girl at your wedding was an honor. I'm sorry you had to leave your beautiful family so young. Rest in peace.

Thinking of you all at this terrible time. I'm so sorry for your loss. I spent many of my teenage years hanging out with Lea-Anne at your place and it was always so much fun spending time with your whole family. Thank you for always including me as Lea-Anne's plus one. Lilla was a wonderful lady and she will be missed. My deepest condolences.

Very sorry to hear of Lilla’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Hello Gary D, Christopher, Lea-Anne, Mark, and families. Although I did not know Lilla well, the few times we met I was impressed by her courtesy & friendly manner. She had to be a great lady, after putting up with my old buddy Gary D for all those years. I also knew Lilla's brother Gary W as we all went to school in St. George N.B. many years ago. Gary - my thoughts & prayers are with you at this sad time. May God Bless. Arnold Baldwin
