On Sunday, March 10, 2024, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law,  aunt and friend, Margaret passed away peacefully at age 91.

Margaret was the beloved wife of Cleophas Peter. She was predeceased by her parents, Arthur Marshall Murday and Mary Alena Murday; her brother William; stepsister Eleanor (late Russell Gormley) and daughter Frances Mary Gagnon.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Cleophas as well as her children David Gubbels (Paula), Teresa Pelda (Robert), Carole Gubbels, Melanie Parnell (Kerry) and Arthur William “Bill” Gubbels (Irys), and son-in-law Francois Gagnon.

Much loved Grandma of Lysa, Christina, Maria, Leila, Patrick, Amanda, Adam, Andrew, Matthew, Michael, William, Isabelle, Aidan, Ryan, and Keagan; Great-Grandma to Kate, Emily, Evelyn, Ben,  Ellysa, Maverick and Penelope. Margaret will also be fondly remembered by a large extended family.

Margaret had a rich and full life, spending nearly 70 years with her husband Cleo at her side. She was always surrounded with the love of her family, including the many family pets.

She spent many days at her second home, the cottage at Sharbot Lake which she helped build with Cleo and the family. Many happy family memories are at the cottage. She especially enjoyed the Saturday evening steak dinners and bonfires. She tended many gardens, loved movies, enjoyed music and always had a book on the go. Her travels with Cleo took her to many countries and aboard many cruise ships. Above all was her love for her family which will be forever missed.

The family would like to thank Margaret’s family physician, Dr. Jessie Li, Dr. Ruth Ellen from Queensway Carleton Hospital, all her caregivers in particular Michelle and Catie and all the wonderful staff from Brockville Hospital who supported her care during her final days.

A private family service and interment will be held at Beechwood Cemetery, Ottawa

Dear family! I'm so sorry for all of our family's loss of Auntie Margaret.

Jayeson and I send our deepest condolences to all the immediate family and thank you all for always including us.

That's a lovely obituary and you sweetly showed how she definitely was a kind and loving person.

I'll always remember when my brother John and my Mom and I stayed with your family in Calgary while we were on a big trip and how generous Auntie Margaret and Uncle Cleo were to have us stay with you!

They also attended a performance of a touring show I was in in Ottawa and I was so touched that they would come and see me!

Big hugs and lots of love to you all! <3

With love,
Cousin Marie
