The world lost a truly kind, supportive, and loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, in-law, uncle, and friend on the evening of February 7, 2024. Graham William Dewar passed away very peacefully at home after a long illness where he received tireless care from his beloved wife Louise. He had celebrated his 80th birthday at home with family and friends in September 2023.

Graham is survived by the love of his life, Louise, his special big sister Barbara Dewar, devoted sons Jason and Jonathan, loving daughters-in-law Amy and Miriam, and cherished grandchildren Sophie, Livia, Claire, and Thomas.

He is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Aletha (Jodoin) Dewar, and his in-laws, Paul and Lucille (Groslouis) Deziel, with whom he had deeply loving relationships and who he was honoured to support and care for in their own senior years – one of many examples of how Graham lived his life.

Graham was born in Montreal and spent the early years of his childhood there before moving to Ottawa, where the first sparks of an inspiring love story began. His family first settled on Lacasse Street, where Graham met Louise. They were childhood friends who fell in love and built a beautiful life together, eventually settling in Manotick in 1970, where sons Jason and Jonathan were born and raised.

Throughout his life, Graham was known for the depth of his friendship with so many lifelong friends who were truly family to him and Louise and the boys. Some of those friends sadly predeceased him and it is a comfort to the family that they and Graham can now be reunited.

Graham found his calling professionally as an entrepreneur, building his own successful business, Graham Dewar & Associates, Ltd., among other enterprises, which afforded him many opportunities to travel the world and provide for his family. He is renowned for his love of hosting family and friends, celebrating events like Christmas, birthdays, and anniversaries, but also the friendships that were central to his life. All of this passion led to a life well lived, the foundations for the outpouring of love and support that the family received throughout his illness and upon his passing, for which Louise and her sons are immensely grateful.

Louise would like to send special thanks to care workers Marieta, Priscilla, Taofeek, Dare, and Shugri, and the Ottawa South Palliative Group for their transcendent professionalism and friendship. Close friends of Graham and Louise were also immensely helpful and the family will be forever grateful.

A funeral mass and reception will be held at St. Leonard church in Manotick at 11:30 am on Friday, February 23, 2024. A private burial will be held at Beechwood Cemetery.

Please consider donations in support of brain disorder research and care, including the Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Society of Canada and Parkinson Canada, as well the local Boxing 4 Health.

I’m so sorry I won’t be able to join you to celebrate the life of this generous and open hearted man. I will never forget how much time our families spent together as neighbours in Manotick, and how Graham and Louise embraced our family into theirs. Much love and prayers to you all!
