It is with deep sadness, that we announce the passing of Benjamin (Ben) Koyman on the morning of December 24, 2023, at home with his family in Ottawa.
Beloved husband to Marie (Shacker), father to Robert, Terry, and Arlie, father-in-law to Caroline, and grandfather to Harrison, Saxon, Brooke, Ava, and Mila.
Ben was born August 8, 1932, in the Netherlands and settled in Ottawa in 1956, where he met and married Marie. Ben and Marie recently celebrated 64 years of marriage.
As the founder of Koyman Galleries, Ben created a place where Canadian artists could showcase and sell their work to everyone. By making art accessible to all, Ben was a business disrupter before the term existed.
Ben lived his life first and foremost as a devoted Husband, Father, and Grandfather. Ben will be remembered as a loving, hardworking, dedicated, and selfless man who always put his family first. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Family and friends are welcome to pay their respects on Friday, December 29, 2023, from 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm at Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Avenue. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 11:00 am in the Sacred Space of Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Avenue. Burial will follow at 12:00 pm, Beechwood Cemetery, 280 Beechwood Avenue.

My deepest sympathies to the Koyman family. It was a privilege to know Ben. Always a gentleman. As I am presently out of the country, I will not be able to attend the visitation or funeral. Thinking of you all at this sad and difficult time. May Ben's memory be a blessing.

Uncle Ben was also my godfather and I always used to tease him about how I ended up with a Dutchmen for a godfather. We always laughed about it and he'd always come up with some witty remark true to his character. Well, honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way. And I feel blessed to be his goddaughter. Rest in Peace, Uncle Ben, you were truly loved by all.

In celebration of a life so beautifully lived. I'll always remember the last time we saw "the Koyman's" in Florida. We were sitting outside in the sun and uncle Ben was very interested in what I was doing for a living. When it was quiet for a moment he said "Are you thinking about how to close your next big sale?". Fond memories indeed. We will be with you in thought during this difficult time.
