In Loving Memory of Milton Henderson Swim
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of retired S/SGT Milton Henderson Swim, aged 90, on Wednesday, December 6, 2023.
Predeceased by his loving and devoted wife Marilyn (née Saunders) and infant son Gregory, Milton is the cherished father of Andrew (Gayle Ciceri), Heather (Mickey Roy), Joanna (Adrian Gollner), Brad (Megan Leah). Cherished “Grampie” to Ashley (Paul), Andrew (Christina), Holly (Chris), Jacob (Ashley), Mikaela, Grey, Owen, Evelyn and Miles. “Great-Gramps” to Alexandria, Adrianna, Emma, Charlotte, and Ella. He will be greatly missed by friends across the country and by many nieces and nephews with whom he shared a special bond.
Milton spent most of his professional life in Ottawa, but he was a proud Maritimer who was born in East Sable River, Nova Scotia. Although not as frequent as he’d like, he loved to get “down home” to visit. The eldest of his generation, Milt so loved his siblings: Roland (Pat) Swim, Jim (Linda) Swim, Doris (Paul) Smith, Katherine (Ken) Taylor, and Shelley (Dwayne) Swim-Bond. Milt also shared exceptionally close relationships with Marilyn’s siblings: Carol and Gord Young, and Dale Saunders. He took great joy in traveling with Marilyn and being surrounded by his family.
At a young age, Milton joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), embarking on a remarkable career in the force that spanned four decades. He exemplified the values of integrity, professionalism, and compassion in every aspect of his work. Milton also proudly served in various roles with CSIS, Interpol, and the Ottawa Police Service.
Milton reminds us to cherish those dear to you, find the fun in the everyday and not take it all too seriously.
In remembrance of Milton, in lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a contribution to The Terry Fox Foundation: terryfox.org, the RCMP Veterans Association: rcmpva.org, or a charity of your choice.
