We are greatly saddened to announce the passing of our dear sister, aunt and great aunt on October 13, 2023 at the Ottawa General Hospital after a brief illness complicated by her disability. Kathleen was 66 years old. She was predeceased by her parents Bryan and Frances Burke (nee Wilson) and sister Teresa (July 2021).
Left to mourn are her sister Christine Tammadge (John), and brothers Stephen Burke (Marian) and Dennis Burke. Kathleen was the much loved aunt to Beth Malloch-Leclair (Marcel), Cameron Burke (Genevieve), David Tammadge (Flor), Mary Tammadge (Alex), and Fraser Burke (Ananda). She will be fondly remembered by her great nephews and nieces Liam, Mattaya, Hailey, Richy, Cassidy, Emily and Devin.
Kathleen was in a very serious car accident in 1978 which left her partially paralyzed on her left side. With intensive rehabilitation and determination on her part Kathleen was able to lead a rich, active and engaged life for many years. Her positive outlook on life despite her physical challenges inspired all who knew her. Kathleen was very happy living independently in her condo in lower town. In recent years she was a tenant of the Perley Health assisted living apartments.
Kathleen enjoyed engaging in artistic activities such as drawing, painting, and ceramics. She kept physically active by swimming, camping, and walking. Kathleen’s volunteer work with children’s pottery classes was appreciated.
Friends are invited to visit the Sacred Space of the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Ave. on Wednesday October 18th after 1 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. followed by interment and reception. For those wishing, the service can also be viewed via livestreamed and can be accessed by registering here.
Special thanks to the assisted living teams at Perley Health as well as Affinity Health for all the help Kathleen received over the years. Also, thank you to the health care staff at the Ottawa Hospital for their compassionate care she received at the end of her life.
In lieu of flowers donations to World Vision, or Perley Health Foundation in memory of Kathleen are appreciated.
