It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of John Patrick March, our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.

John passed peacefully away surrounded by family on Thursday, October 5th 2023 at Pembroke Regional Hospital, after a short but courageous fight with Alzheimer’s disease. He is pre-deceased by his infant son David, his parents Jack and Catherine March, his brothers Jim March and Gary March.

John was born in 1941 in St. John’s Newfoundland. Growing up and spending many of his 82 years there. John was a member of the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals from 1958 to 1961. While there he worked on the DEW line as well as the Diefenbunker. Following the Corps, John worked as Engineering Assistant for the city of St. John’s, NL until his retirement in 1995.

He spent many happy times with his wife (Barbara) and friends at their cabin on Salmonier Line, and he absolutely adored “his” St. John’s harbor - he checked it out daily while living in Newfoundland. John and Barbara moved up to the Ottawa Valley in 2002 where they have spent the last 21 wonderful years making new friends, going on fun adventures, and spending time with family and friends in Ontario.

Leaving to mourn are his loving wife Barbara - they just celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage. His two sons: Sean and daughter-in-law Margie in Texas, Paul and daughter-in-law Jenn in Florida. His three grandchildren whom he adored:  Jordan, Leslie (Joey) & David. His siblings: Betty, Patsy, Steve (Jeanette), Lolly, Bill, Kevin (Georgina), Rose (Stan), Gerry (Linda), Bob (Holly), Mike - and sister-in-law Lorraine.  A large number of nephews and nieces that held a special place in his heart - and many wonderful friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Ontario or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

(Special thanks to the staff at Pembroke Regional Hospital for the kindness and compassion provided during John’s stay – words cannot express how much this meant to the family)
