It is with profound sadness that Amelia's family announces her passing on Friday, June 9, 2023. Predeceased by her parents Leonardo and Giuseppina (Parabola) Palumbo, and by her loving husband, Mario Palumbo, Amelia is survived by her children John, Josephine, Jacqueline (Shalin) and Deborah (Allain). Amelia will be dearly missed by her grandchild Bianca. She also leaves behind her brother Gianfranco, and sisters, Lidia and Giovanna. She was predeceased by her sisters Lucia and Maria and will be deeply missed by her numerous nieces and nephews.
Amelia was a passionate and dedicated community activist. She served on the boards of a number of not-for-profit organizations, including the Dante Alighieri Society, the Centro Italiano, and the National Congress of Italian Canadians (Ontario Region), specifically as Vice President and secretary to the local chapter for many years. She was recognized for her extensive community service with the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee medal, the Commemorative medal for the 125th anniversary of the Confederation of Canada and the Ottawa Italian Women's Filo - Special Recognition Award for her outstanding service to our Italian Canadian Community.
Amelia's love of life and vibrant personality will be greatly missed. Her strength, courage, and resilience in the face of adversity, especially in the loss of her loving and devoted husband at a young age are an inspiration for all those who have come to know her. But most of all, Amelia will be remembered for being an exceptional mother - loving, dedicated, supportive and relentless in her devotion to her children. She will forever remain unforgettable in our minds and in our hearts.
A private funeral service will be held on June 19, 2023 at the Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica, Ottawa. Interment Service to follow in the Chapel of Beechwood Cemetery. Donations to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation will be gratefully acknowledged by the family.

I had the pleasure of welcoming Mrs. Palumbo to my classroom nearly eight years ago when she participated in our special grandparents' day activities. Her love for you, Bianca, was evident in every smile and twinkle of her eye. I hope that wonderful memories support and sustain you all through this difficult time.
