It is with deep sadness, we announce the passing of Heather at her home on Sunday, March 26, 2023.
Heather was the loving wife of Martin Byrd (for 63 years), the daughter of the late Walter and Crystal Reed and the older sister of Douglas, Wayne (late), Cheryl (Bob) and Kevin. Heather was born in Montreal on March 14, 1939.
Heather is survived by her husband, three children, Steven, Brian (Catherine) and Carolyn (Kenny) and five grandchildren, Jonathan (Chelsea), Robert, Katrina (Wayne), Andrew and Meagan.
Heather spent much of her childhood growing-up in the small Town of Hudson Heights, where as a teenager, she met her future husband. Heather and Martin later married and raised their young family in Chomedey, before eventually moving to Mississauga in 1976. Heather supported her children by volunteering countless hours to youth programs, such as Scouts Canada and the Girl Guides of Canada. Later, Heather supported her Grandchildren in many ways, including attending their hockey and basketball games, and volunteering in their schools.
Heather enjoyed family gatherings/celebrations, summer camping with her children and grandchildren. More recently, she and Martin travelled extensively, including wintering in Florida. Summers were normally spent at home, where she enjoyed outdoor gardening, and participating in the annual Blackburn Hamlet community yard-sale. Heather was an avid curling fan, and an active member of the RCN Curling Club for many years.
The family would like to express their most sincere appreciation to Dr. J. Brodeur of Bytown Palliative Medicine and Nurse H. Booth of Bayshore Home Care for their extraordinary care and support during this very challenging time.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa) on Saturday, April 15th at 12:00 PM for visitation, and 1:00 PM for a memorial service.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the charity of your choice in loving memory of Heather.
