It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Jennifer Anne BAILLIU on October 16th, 2022 at the age of 79, at the home of her daughter Leslie, surrounded with the love of her family.
Daughter of the late Naval Surgeon LCdr Roderick ROSS of Vineland Station, Ontario, and the late Margaret JAQUES of Westmount, Québec. Beloved wife for sixty years of Lt-Col Jacques Julien BAILLIU (ret’d), OMM. Loving mother of Leslie Anne (David Kenny), Jeannine Natasha and Anne Geneviève. Cherished Mamie to Alizé, Daphné, Julien, Liam and Daniel. Survived by sister Marlee ROSS and, brothers Lex and David ROSS. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Jennifer completed high school in Toronto. She graduated from Queen’s University (BA Arts, 64) (BA Education, 70) and the University of Toronto (MA Education, 79). Given the vagaries of 30 years of life as a military spouse (Québec City, Germany/Werl and Lahr, Montréal, Kingston, Toronto, Ottawa, etc.), as head of the family she amazingly managed to always balance raising her family and, concurrently, contributing to society by working and volunteering in her field of vocational counselling for at-risk teenagers and adults, in education and addiction rehabilitation.
For 30 years, she loved to be a welcoming hostess at the family cottage and, as a synchronized and long-distance swimmer she was a familiar sight in the waters of Lac Corbeau, QC. For 20 years, she enjoyed springtime in a little house lost among the vineyards of Montfort-sur-Argens (Provence). In between, hiking (El camino de Santiago de Compostella in Spain), and a passion for exploring new horizons led to world-wide travelling including Europe, Egypt, French Polynesia, China, Russia, Indochina, and South-America, kept her fit and her adventurous mind wide open.
The cremation has occurred and a funeral service/graveside ceremony will be held at a later date. Inurnment will take place privately at the Beechwood National Military Cemetery in Ottawa.
In lieu of flowers, sympathy and condolences may be extended by making a donation to The Ottawa Mission, Jennifer’s preferred charity, or to a charity of your choice.
Thank you for the dedicated support and assistance from the Soins Palliatifs Orléans, and the Personal Support Workers from Bayshore. Special thanks to Emma.

Curious, kind, vivacious, beautiful and mischievous. My Aunt Jennifer was a guiding light in our family. Her arms and home were always open to me and I learned, loved and laughed with her throughout her life. Memories of walking through the forest at the farm, sitting beside her at a crowded Ross table and her drawing me into the conversation, later as an adult sitting at her candlelit table drinking red wine and laughing into the night, her making a pilgrimage to attend the opening of Clown Hall (vibrant wig in place), coming to the National Arts Centre to support me on-stage, creating space for our little broken family the first Christmas after divorce, schooling me in the ways of glass vs plastic and always, always making me feel loved unconditionally. My heart is full of love for this marvellous woman and I will carry these memories with me. Love Lisa

Deep-felt condolences to Jacques, Anne, Jeannine, Leslie and all the family. My heart breaks with yours at the loss of such a loving, kind and generous woman.
We met working together at Serenity House and I witnessed firsthand her compassion, concern, and ability to help so many clients move on to a better life; they loved her because they felt her genuine concern and they knew they were never judged.
She has been an amazing friend of 36 years’ duration through which weaves rich traditions built together with memories that will endure: long weekends at her cottage, spa getaways, especially at our beloved Chateau Les Beaulnes, and many wonderful dinners, to name a few. It is rare to have a friend with whom you can laugh yourself to tears with just a few sentences or looks; she gave me that gift. Jennifer’s unrelenting joie de vivre, kindness to all, ability to see many points of view, great sense of humour, and curious nature all made for a very interesting person. Many fascinating conversations we’ve shared about life’s mysteries, intricacies and possibilities over a glass of wine. Jennifer has blessed me with her friendship and has made a huge difference, bringing such joy to my life. I miss her so much.
My thoughts are with you all as you mourn the love of a great woman.

I am sorry for your loss. I did not know Jennifer well but I helped her with her beautiful garden which she loved. It was her passion and she always mentioned to me how much she enjoyed her daughters coming to visit her in her garden. I am so glad to have met such a lovely, passionate lady. My thoughts are with all of you. Dorothy Holtz. Jennifer’s garden helper

We keep you all in our hearts.
