Peacefully, with family by his side following a long and valiant battle with lung disease (IPF). Jim was the son of James Morris McCaffrey and Johanna Murphy of Halifax, Nova Scotia.Beloved husband of Helen Carrigy McCaffrey, loving father of Laura (Marc), Christine (Charlie), Warren (Nathalie), Sean (Karine), and Gavin (Dana) and step-father of Colin and Brendan (Keri) Mahar. Cherished grandfather of Nick, Grace, Rachel, Phil, Madison, Kierra, Olivia, Ainsley, Samuel, Riley, and Connor. Jim is also survived by his beloved sister, Beverley (Cecil) Hubley, many loving friends, and Helen's family in Ireland. Jim was predeceased by his first wife Patricia Dodd and his sister Sharon McCaffrey. Jim was very proud of his five years as a Cadet Officer with the Royal Canadian Navy. During this time he attended Saint Mary's University and the Nova Scotia Technical College and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Jim spent his career with Alcan, Lavalin and Lafarge Inc. There were many international assignments, including what Jim described as his "two-year honeymoon" with Helen in London, England. Following retirement, Jim and Helen loved to travel and had many memorable visits with Helen's family in Ireland. Jim also volunteered on the Board of Directors of the Hawkesbury and District Hospital, the Sparks Street Board of Directors and the Ireland Canada Chamber of Commerce (Montreal). He was also the founding Chairman of the Watergate Tenants Association. Jim also enjoyed curling (RCMP and Vankleek Hill Curling Club) and golf at the Pineview Golf Club. On August 4, 2022 Helen and Jim celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary. It was a private affair and with a "split" of their favorite champagne, they toasted their wondrous and adventure-filled life together. Jim - dad, grandad, step-dad, brother, brother-in-law and friend, we will miss you. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, on Saturday, August 20, 2022 from 2:30 to 5:00PM. In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
