Peacefully, at his home, Robert Kenneth Russell passed away on July 23rd, 2022, a few short days after his 77th birthday.

He is survived by his daughter Katie, his son Jeff (Sarah), his grandchildren Macy, Russell, Eva, and Gregory and the mother of his children Miriam. Predeceased by his cherished wife Karen, loving parents Robert and Mavis and his little brother Jeffrey.

Bob was born on July 17th, 1945, in Durban, South Africa. After his mandatory military service in his native land, he set off to travel the globe to satisfy his wanderlust. This led him to Ottawa where he put down roots and started a family. After years of building a career in sales, he made a midlife pivot into the culinary arts, eventually taking a plunge and purchasing a restaurant. He would spend the next 20 years building Stoneface Dolly’s into a pillar of the community and beloved eatery in both Centretown and Little Italy.

Bob formed lasting bonds with many of his guests at his restaurants, with “regulars” being treated more as family than customers. A passionate “foodie”, he poured all his energy into ensuring that he was serving the best food possible. Honest, almost to a fault, he was a man of passion and integrity, where principle was a major guiding force in his life.

He was surrounded by a loving family and delighted in watching his children and grandchildren grow over the years. Bob will be missed immensely by his family and friends but are comforted by knowing that he is at peace and once again in the arms of his beloved Karen.

There will be a small private service for Bob and public Celebration of Life for both him and Karen to be announced at a later date.

We grew up living across the street from each other. Landed up living in different parts of the world. After 53 years we finally reconnected and I am thankful for the last few months we had catching up . The last words I said to him on our regular FaceTime chats was on his birthday and were: Happy Birthday Bobby Russell.

Bob was a neighbour and we often chatted about cats. He helped me with tips as I was a first time cat owner. He was a kind and sweet gentleman.

Bob was an exemplary man. As a token of appreciation for frequenting his restaurant for many years, he gifted me a signed copy of the Stoneface Dolly’s recipe book. The book occupies a special place amongst my book collection. Rest in peace Bob. I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the Russell family.
