Jeannine Carreau

C'est avec regret que nous vous annonçons le décès de notre mère Jeannine Carreau (née Côté).  Elle est décédée le 5 février 2022, à l'âge de 91 ans, après un courageux combat de 16 ans contre la maladie d'Alzheimer.

La perte progressive de notre maman à cause de cette maladie a en effet été un long au revoir et nous sommes soulagés de ne plus la voir souffrir.

Jeannine est née le 10 février 1930 à Sainte Justine-de-Dorchester, Québec.  Elle était la fille de feu Alyre Côté et feu Victoria Goupil.  Sa famille a déménagé à Dupuy, Québec quand Jeannine était très jeune.  En 1947, elle a obtenu un Brevet Élémentaire d'Enseignement Primaire de l'École Normale d'Amos. Après être devenue enseignante, elle a rencontré son mari, feu Marcel Carreau, alors qu'il la conduisait à l'école en tant que chauffeur d'autobus scolaire du village. Jeannine et Marcel ont déménagé au nord de l'Ontario et ont vécu à Kirkland Lake pendant de nombreuses années. Après le décès de son mari, Jeannine a déménagé à Ottawa pour se rapprocher de sa famille.

Jeannine laisse dans le deuil ses quatre enfants : Réjean (Sylvie Francoeur), Suzanne (Gérald Toupin), Michel (Rita Vidotto) et Louise (Rob Taylor). Elle a été prédécédée par sa belle-fille Joanne (née Piché).

Jeannine était la grand-mère chérie de Mélissa, Philippe (Katelyn Reynolds) et Mathieu Toupin, Danielle Price et Kathryn Carreau. Elle était également l'arrière-grand-mère de Finnley et Cayden Toupin.

Jeannine était une sœur chère à Dolorès, à son défunt frère Gaston et à ses sœurs défuntes Marguerite, Jeanne-d'Arc et Armande.

Jeannine était avant tout une épouse et mère dévouée qui chérissait ses enfants. Sa foi était un élément important de sa vie. Elle aimait faire des patisseries avec ses petits enfants, aimait chanter et prier, et était une tricoteuse habile.

Nous tenons à remercier Nathalie Tardif (Tardif Senior Care) pour son amour, ses soins et son soutien tout au long de la maladie de notre mère.

Nous tenons également à remercier le personnel du Centre de soins de longue durée Montfort pour les bons soins prodigués au cours des 10 dernières années.

Une messe en honneur de Jeannine aura lieu le samedi 7 mai 2022 à l'Église Ste-Geneviève, 825 avenue Canterbury, Ottawa. L'inhumation aura lieu à une date ultérieure à Kirkland Lake.

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Jeannine Carreau (nee Côté) on February 5, 2022, at the age of 91, after a brave 16-year battle with Alzeimer’s disease.

The gradual loss of our mom to this disease has indeed been a long goodbye and we are relieved that she is no longer suffering.

Jeannine was born February 10, 1930 to Alyre Côté and Victoria Goupil in Sainte Justine-de-Dorchester, Québec. Her family later moved to Dupuy, Québec.  In 1947, she obtained an Elementary Diploma of Primary Teaching in the Amos Normal School.  After becoming a teacher she met her husband, the late Marcel Carreau, while he chauffeured her to school as the village school bus driver.  Jeannine and Marcel moved to northern Ontario and lived in Kirkland Lake for many years.  After the passing of her husband, Jeannine moved to Ottawa to be close to her family.  

Jeannine was the beloved mother of her four children: Réjean (Sylvie Francoeur), Suzanne (Gérald Toupin), Michel (Rita Vidotto) and Louise (Rob Taylor). Pre-deceased by her daughter-in-law Joanne (nee Piche).

Jeannine was a cherished grandmother to Mélissa, Philippe (Katelyn Reynolds) and Mathieu Toupin, Danielle Price and Kathryn Carreau.  She was also a great grandmother to Finnley and Cayden Toupin.

Jeannine was a dear sister to Dolorès, and to her late brother Gaston and sisters Marguerite, Jeanne-d’Arc and Armande.

First and foremost, Jeannine was a devoted wife and mother who treasured her children.  Her Faith was an important element of her life.  She was a great baker, skilled knitter and loved to sing and pray.

We wish to thank Nathalie Tardif (Tardif Senior Care) for her love, caregiving and support throughout our mother’s illness.

We also wish to thank the staff of the Centre de soins de longue durée Montfort for their compassionate care of Jeannine over the last 10 years.

A mass will be held in her honour on Saturday May 7, 2022 at Église Ste-Geneviève, 825 avenue Canterbury, Ottawa.  Interment will take place at a later date in Kirkland Lake.
