Passed away peacefully after a short, courageous battle with cancer.  Born in Burnaby BC, she is the daughter of the late Muriel Arline Tate and the late Robert Gordon Ostrom.  Dorothy attended Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, receiving a B.Sc.(hon.) in Chemistry and subsequently a M.Sc. in Chemistry from McMaster University in Hamilton where she met her future husband.  Dorothy was a research manager with Health Canada for many years and was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee medal for her contributions.

She had a long-standing interest in genealogy, was an active member of several genealogical organizations, and published a detailed ancestry on one branch of her family.  She also had an interest in history and had almost completed writing an extensive history of her local neighbourhood to be published posthumously.  She also enjoyed other hobbies including cooking, gardening, reading and travel.  She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Thomas (Tom) Paul.

The excellent care she received by the oncology doctors at the Ottawa Hospital, General Campus as well as the nurses and staff of 5 East is gratefully acknowledged.  In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Ottawa Hospital or another favourite charity would be appreciated.  A memorial service will be held at Beechwood Cemetery, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, on Thursday, December 9th at 2 pm.

My most sincere sympathy to Tom. Dorothy was a vibrant, hard working and extremely capable Librarian, Archivist, and the Manager of the web page of our Sir Guy Carleton Branch of the U.E.L.A.C. It is difficult to fully express how painful it is to lose such a good friend and colleague. Dorothy and I worked on the executive together for many years and I always appreciated her insights, incisive solutions to difficulties and her warm smile. She will be profoundly missed.

Please accept my condolences Tom. Dorothy was a wonderful friend, and I so enjoyed our chats over lunches and visits to the Gallery. We shared a keen interest in genealogy and often discussed what books our Book Clubs were reading. She was a quiet giving person with a wonderful sense of humour. I will miss her.

Bytown Chapter, NSDAR, offers Tom our sincere condolences. Dorothy was a longtime and treasured member and a past registrar of our chapter. Many of us owe her a debt of gratitude for her knowledgeable guidance as we navigated our way through the research and documentation required by the DAR application process. But beyond that expertise, she was a caring, hard-working and thoughtful friend who was treasured by all of us. She was a gem, and we will miss her deeply.

It was with shock to learn of Dorothy’s passing. There is a void in the space beside Tom and in the many venues in which Dorothy was involved. She will be sadly missed to the many of us. May she Rest In Peace.

Dorothy was a mentor, an inspiration, and a wonderful friend. I am so grateful to have met her through the DAR, where her tremendous contributions have helped so many of us connect to the past and to each other as DAR sisters. She will be greatly missed.
