Barton (Barry) Miles, born January 6, 1932, died at the age of 94 on March 25, 2026, 10 days after his beloved wife Lorna, who predeceased him on March 15.

He was the devoted father of Laura Miles, Barbara Cecchini (Tom), Catherine Costain (Charlie), Robert Miles (Kathy) and Craig Miles (Sherry), and proud grandfather of Jennifer, Melissa, Miles, Victoria (Cory), Jessica, Dale, Michael, Matthew, Christina, Daniel, Cecily and Graham, and great-grandfather of Leiah, Landon, Nolan, Annabelle, Tilly, Shea, Walter and Malcolm.

From humble beginnings in east-end Montreal Barry built a career at CN Rail and a life for his family that took him and Lorna across Canada. Starting as a carman’s apprentice in Montreal at the age of 16, Barry retired at 58 as the Assistant Chief Car Equipment for all of Canada. In between, he worked in Ottawa, twice more in Montreal, Capreol, twice in Winnipeg, Moncton and Toronto. On retirement he built the family cottage on Centennial Lake which has been the centre of family gatherings for the past 35 years.

Barry was a quiet man, a handyman, a carpenter, a sports enthusiast, but above all a loving and beloved family man whose greatest pleasure was to have as much of his family around him as could be arranged. It is with great sadness that we mark his passing.

A celebration of life for Barry and Lorna will be held at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, on Friday, April 17, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Perley Health Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

Our deepest sympathies, Laura, to you and your family. Although I never met your father or mother, I felt I knew them a little from the wonderful stories you shared.

Our deepest sympathies to the Miles family.
We had the privilege of visiting with both Lorna and Barry in their home at their cottage and at Laura’s home. We remember them them both so fondly. They were generous, funny and caring . What a legacy they left in their children and grandchildren and great grandchildren.
