Carrie was more than a cousin, she was the heart of our family, a radiant presence that touched each of us in unique and profound ways. I first met Carrie on her 16th birthday back in 1991, a day etched in memory as the beginning of a beautiful journey through the tapestry of family ties.
That birthday celebration was my first glimpse into the warmth and vibrancy of Carrie and her family. As I watched relatives gather around her, sharing laughter and stories, I couldn't help but marvel at the beauty of family coming together to celebrate her birthday. It was a revelation, a glimpse into the magic of shared memories and unconditional love. Some of the memories that where shared where
Summer days adventures at the cottage with her father-in-law, George, where Carrie and her Cousins would engage in playful antics, like showering unsuspecting victims that where enjoying a hot shower with cold water that would be poured over top of them from the other room and igniting laughter with cousin Barry's doing his Indian dance around the campfire right before the campfire would magically light up.
Laughter was the soundtrack of Carrie's gatherings with her sister Michelle and cousins—David, Diana, and Kevin—a symphony of joy that echoed through the halls of our family gatherings. Their laughter was infectious, leaving us all helpless with laughter, even when we had no inkling of what had sparked their amusement.
In those moments of uproarious laughter, when tears streamed down their faces and joy danced in their eyes, Carrie's laughter, in particular, was like a beacon, and amidst the peals of laughter, there was always George, Carrie's uncle, with his trademark quip: "There goes Carrie, she's about to lay an egg." His words only served to intensify the laughter, a testament to Carrie's infectious spirit and her uncanny ability to find humor in the simplest of moments.
As we reflect on those cherished memories, we are reminded of the bond that united Carrie, her sister and her cousins—a bond forged in laughter, strengthened by love, and immortalized in the joyful echoes of their shared moments together.
In the course of our evolving relationship, I came to know Joey, whose love for Carrie was palpable in every gesture, every glance. From their wedding day to the joyous arrival of their two beautiful daughters Hayley and Chloe. From Soccer mom, Swimming mom and of course her favorite Hockey mom. Carrie's devotion to her family was unwavering.
Carrie wasn't just the heart of our family; she was its guiding light, a master planner whose passion for adventure fueled our most cherished memories. From spontaneous trips to meticulously orchestrated family vacations, Carrie's enthusiasm and organizational prowess ensured that every moment was filled with joy and wonder.
One such adventure stands out vividly in our collective memory—the day we set out with David her cousin to discover the elusive Pink Lake. What began as a simple quest for natural beauty turned into an unforgettable journey, led us down winding paths and hidden trails, and turned into a three-hour tour, never to see Pink Lake. With that Carrie’s talent for planning reached its zenith when she orchestrated our trip to Disneyland. With meticulous precision, she mapped out every detail of our expedition, ensuring that each member of our family would experience the wonder of Disneyland to its fullest. As David and Carrie led the way, our children nestled in the middle, and Joey and I brought up the rear, we knew that we were in capable hands, guided by the wisdom and foresight of two.
Carrie's legacy as a planner, adventurer, and devoted family member lives on in the countless memories we shared and the bonds that unite us. Though she may no longer be with us in body, her spirit remains ever-present, illuminating our path and guiding us forward.
Carrie's thoughtfulness was a beacon of light in our lives, illuminating even the darkest of days with her boundless generosity and love. Whether it was birthdays, Christmas, or any special occasion, Carrie's heart overflowed with the joy of giving, making each moment an opportunity to spread love and happiness.
Birthdays held a special place in Carrie's heart, a chance to celebrate the people she held dear with thoughtful gifts and heartfelt gestures. And Christmas was a time of unparalleled joy, as Carrie's love for games and surprises brought us all closer together, weaving moments of laughter and camaraderie into the fabric of our family traditions.
As I carry Carrie's memory forward, I vow to honor her legacy by continuing the traditions she held dear. Birthdays will be marked with special gifts and cherished moments, just as Carrie would have wanted. And Christmas will always be a time of games and laughter, a testament to Carrie's enduring spirit of joy and togetherness.
But perhaps the sweetest tribute of all will be the plate of chocolate chip cookies that will forever grace our gatherings, a reminder of Carrie's favorite indulgence and her unwavering love for those she held dear.
Carrie, if only I could have told you how much you meant to me, how your laughter and kindness filled my life with warmth and joy. If only I could still hold your hand, share a smile, and bask in the beauty of your presence. But though you may be gone, your memory lives on in the hearts of all who loved you, a beacon of light that guides us.
Love you always, Carrie. You will forever hold a special place in my heart.
