The Guty family is sad to announce the peaceful passing of Vladimir “Wally” Guty on March 16, 2025. Wally was the loving husband of Marilyn for 62 years. He was the caring father of Tania (Tony) and Allan (Jelena). He treasured his grandchildren, Lara (Thomas), Fletcher, Margaret and Ruby Jane.
Wally was born on March 6, 1936, and raised on a small farm in Hearst, Ontario. As a boy, he would drive a dog sled to school in the day and listen to the Toronto Maple Leafs or Brooklyn Dodgers games on the radio at night.
When Wally was a teenager, he left the farm for Toronto and graduated from the Ryerson Institute of Technology and then joined the National Research Council, Gas Dynamics, where he worked for 35 years. Wally took his fashion cues from no one. His signature look was all his own and that included thick red wool socks with dress shoes.
Knowing the value and impact of words, he was always measured with his own. He was independent minded, fiercely loyal to his family and friends and always lived by his word. He was a builder, a fixer, award-winning maple syrup producer, a world traveller and a steward of the forest.
Wally requested no service at this time. A graveside service will take place later this spring. Family and friends are invited to leave a condolence message by clicking the "Sign Digital Guestbook" tab on the left of this page.
Donations in Wally’s memory may be made to the Ancient Forest Alliance or Dying with Dignity.
It’s like a magnificent, sacred tree collapsed in the forest.

To Marilyn and family our heartfelt condolences on the passing of Wally. We have many fond memories of all those years at NRC. Wally was a very hard worker but always clam and caring.

Marilyn, we were very saddened by the news of Wally's passing. Davor very fondly remembers yours and Wally's hospitality when he visited PEI in 2014 and teared up recalling how Wally had so thoughtfully hoisted the Croatian flag in a welcome gesture. He also remembers Wally being the most cheerful host (and tour guide) and how much he enjoyed picking up and preparing lobster for everyone. Our granddaughters have told us many loving stories about their Dede Wally and their visits to Ottawa. We know that nothing can fill the void left behind by Wally's passing but we hope that the warmth of so many wonderful memories will bring you comfort.
So sorry, Marilyn, for the loss of your beloved Wally.
Special hugs to you and your family .
A wonderful guy, terrific squash player and fun ambassador for fitness!
I treasure the etching he gave me of my Great Uncle Clifford who died in WW1 when he was visiting the graves in France. Very special and typical kindness of Wally
I always admired how he beamed a big smiles every time he looked at you, Marilyn!
So glad to have met him in my circle of friends.
