It is with profound sadness that our family announces the death of Stan Waldegger on October 31, 2021. Stan will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend of 56 years Carmen (nee Gore), three children: Lisa (Andy), Erin (Robert) and Michael (Colleen), and eight grandchildren: Dakota, Amy, Adam, Nathan, Avery, Maddie, Jonah and Leonard. He is survived by his sister Frances (Lyall – deceased), brother Robert (Marlene), sister-in-law Michele (Donald), and a rich network of cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. Stan was predeceased by his brother-in-law David (Barbara), sister-in-law Jayne (Larry), and infant brother Edward.
Stan served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for 31 years, retiring in 1994 as Lieutenant Colonel. His military career and subsequent civilian work saw him serve across Canada and around the world. Stan lived life to the fullest: he travelled, gardened, skied, golfed and curled into his eighties. He was active in the community as a longstanding member of the Knights of Columbus, Royal Canadian Air Force Mess, Hylands Golf Course, and Maritime Aviation Veterans Association of Canada. He enjoyed being at the helm of the BBQ, running community spaghetti dinners, brewing up a variety of wines in the basement, and hurtling down the ski hill.
Stan was kind, generous, thoughtful and a much-loved husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 12, 2021 at Annunciation of the Lord Roman Catholic Church, 2414 Ogilvie Road, Ottawa. To help with COVID-19 protocols, the family requests double vaccination to attend in person; however, a livestream will be available (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnAIfE368q6KSn8ukDON19A). For those attending in person, pre-registration is appreciated (https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/funeral-for-stanley-waldegger-tickets-203814453517). Private burial will be held at Beechwood Cemetery.
In memory of Stan, and in alignment with his values and commitment to community, donations may be made to Soldier On (www.soldieron.ca). Soldier On is a program of the Canadian Armed Forces which contributes to the recovery of ill and injured members and veterans.
