Pamela Hopkins, age 95, passed away peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital after a short illness.  Pamela, the daughter of Percy Rowe and his wife Minnie (née Batchelor), was born in East Stonehouse, Plymouth in Devon, England and raised in Kingsteignton, Devon.  She was educated at Newton Abbot Grammar School and was trained and qualified as a State Registered Nurse at the City Hospital in Plymouth.  It was during this period she met and married her husband, Captain (N) Stanley Hopkins of Burlington, Ontario, who was in England attending the Royal Naval College at Plymouth and Greenwich.  Stanley passed away in 2023.  They were happily married for over 70 years.

Pamela raised the family through Stanley’s postings at sea and on land, living at various times (in Canada) in Dartmouth, Victoria, Deep River and Ottawa and (in the UK) in London and Glasgow. Pamela took on volunteer tasks, most notably with the Ottawa Hospital and was a stalwart member of the Ladies’ International Bridge Club in Ottawa. Pam and Stan had a long and happy retirement in Ottawa and at the family cottage in the Gatineau Hills, Quebec.

Pamela is survived by daughter Julie, sons Jamie and William, sisters Diana and Margaret, nephews Mark and Andrew, niece Sally-ann and their families, grandchildren Veronica and Andrew (to whom she was “Granny”) and many “navy” nieces and nephews.

Donations to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation, whose staff took great care of Pamela, would be welcome.  Service arrangements will be announced separately.
