In loving memory of Pamela Jeannette Deacon (May 28, 1947 - December 27, 2023), beloved wife of Anthony Francis Burger (predeceased), and cherished mother of Philip Anthony Burger.
Pam was born and raised in Toronto, where she lived with her parents, Dr. Arthur and Nadine Deacon, and her three younger siblings: John (Lesia) of Toronto, Dave (Olive) of California, and Nadine of Aurora.
Pam lived abroad during much of her working life, beginning in Rio de Janeiro as a journalist, and later as a consular official in Nairobi. After her marriage to Tony in 1983, they enjoyed postings together in Washington, Manila, Paris, Hong Kong, and Wellington, where Pam was Deputy High Commissioner. Pam and Tony returned to Ottawa for retirement in 2012, after a trip around the world.
Pam leaves behind many friends made throughout her life, from her formative years at Havergal College and Neuchâtel, through her retirement years in West Carleton. Pam also led an active life, which included completing the 100km MacLehose trail in Hong Kong (twice), and later cultivating the garden of her dreams on the Ottawa River.
During Pam’s final years, she developed a neurological condition but remained at home with the support of her son and home caregivers. The progression of her condition did not deter her optimism, nor did it diminish her affection for her son.
To honour Pam’s memory, Philip invites donations to causes supporting those affected by Parkinson’s disease or dementia.
A funeral service will be held on January 6, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa, followed by a reception.

At work and in retirement Pam was a very welcoming and warm colleague and friend. She was the architect of a magnificent garden in the country home she created with Tony for the brief happy years of their retirement together. RIP Pam

Pamela very kindly reached out on behalf the Neuchatel Class to remember David Darling. She was very gentle and kind. It was a pleasure to have met her.
I was fortunate to have room and boarded with the wonderful Deacon family in 1964-65 while attending school. The highlight of my stay was being Pamela's date to the Havergal senior prom. I remember her as a gracious, charming young lady. My condolences to her siblings and son.
