The family of Izaak Murray is deeply saddened to announce his sudden passing on May 11, 2024, at the age of 19. Izaak was studying computer science at Carleton University, Ottawa, and an Officer Cadet with the Canadian Military. He graduated from Riverview High School in Riverview, NB.
Izaak enjoyed time in the water. He worked as a lifeguard and swimming instructor and played water polo in Riverview. He also enjoyed time on the ice. Izaak was a curler and enjoyed representing The Netherlands in Finland at the World Junior B Level tournament in 2022.
His interest in technology started at a young age. In high school, Izaak was involved in CyberTitan and CyberPatriot cyber defence competitions and was a leader of his high school tech crew. In his spare time, Izaak enjoyed flying drones, building his own computers and constructing complex Lego sets.
Izaak had a musical side and found joy in playing the guitar. He enjoyed a good game of chess, and other games, always with a competitive spirit. Most of all, he loved spending time with friends and sharing a good laugh.
He was a great friend to others and was always looking to help his friends and family. He will be forever remembered by his parents, George and Minouska Murray, five siblings Patrick (Maddie), Joshua (Audrey), Lauren, Michael, and Micah, grandmother (Oma) Felica Eduardo, nephew Elijah, several aunts, uncles, cousins in Canada and The Netherlands, his loving girlfriend and steadfast friend Celia Boyd, and numerous friends from across Canada. He will be especially missed by his lifelong friend Lucas, Lucas’ parents, Terry and Julie Melanson, and bonus grampy Peter Scribner.
Family and friends are invited to join the memorial service to pay their respects at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, on Monday, May 27, 2024, at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in the National Military Cemetery.
There is a powerful darkness that can block the light from the love of family and friends. It is with immeasurable grief that we share that our Izaak has lost his struggle to this darkness. We hope his loving kindness and sense of humour live on with you who knew him and that someday we can smile as we remember his kind soul. Donations to mental health charities of your choice would be appreciated.

Izaak taught my daughter swimming and he was one of her favourite teachers. He always made a point to make her feel welcomed and made sure to acknowledge her. His kind gestures and demeanor made it easier for my daughter to not be so nervous. My deepest condolences to all of izaak's family and friends for your loss.

I remember him fondly as a student in my English class at RHS. He really was the sweetest boy. We shared many laughs--he did have a delightful sense of humour. He was one of those students I will remember because he was able to see past "teacher" to recognize "person." This was typical of him--he genuinely took the time to listen to people and to know them. The world is a lesser place without him.

I had the pleasure for having Izaak on the Tech Crew at RHS for his grade 11 year. He was a kind and patient young man and he was a remarkable asset to the school community with is contribution both academically and his positive attitude towards the school as a whole. Izaak was a genuine person and appreciated people that were honest and genuine in return.
I am honoured to have been able to teach and work with such a remarkable young man, you will be missed.
I am so sorry for your loss. I will always have great memories of Isaak. He was always there and willing to step in and help all the time. He really made the final year of waterpolo a great one and will always be grateful for his help and kindness.
