With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Noel "Nachaat" Nasri Sabbagh on October 25, 2023. He passed away peacefully at the age of 86 under the care of Oakpark Retirement Residence in Ottawa. With every birthday that passed, Noel refused to concede that he was getting older. He was "young" Giddou to his grandchildren, Noah and Claudia.
Born in Alexandria, Egypt on December 19, 1936, he always longed to be reunited with his loving parents Alice and Nasri Sabbagh. Noel moved to Montreal, Canada in 1966 at the age of 30. He started his career selling encyclopedias door to door and then became a proud and dedicated Federal Government employee for over 40 years. After moving his family to Ottawa in 1984, he continued with Health and Welfare, Transport Canada and National Defense. Noel lived a full and active life. He was fluent in 5 languages including French, English, Arabic, Italian and Greek which he loved to show off at the local cultural festivals. Noel's passions in life included all sports (especially basketball, volleyball, and jogging), his family, his faith, food, singing and dancing. As a youth, he played professional basketball in Greece and also sang and played the drums in a rock and roll band. Most people who met him would comment on how charming and engaging he was.
Noel Sabbagh is survived by his son George Sabbagh, Charles Sabbagh (Chimen Nohra), and his pride and joy, Noah and Claudia Sabbagh.
To honour and remember Noel Sabbagh's life, we invite you to a visitation at Beechwood Cemetery (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa) on Friday Nov 3 from 6-8pm. A funeral service will be held at St Elias Cathedral (750 Ridgewood Avenue, Ottawa) on Saturday Nov 4th at 10:00am followed by the burial at Beechwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St- Elias Cathedral.

My most sincere condolences to George and all family. The last time I saw Noel I was probably under 10 years old. I remember wanting to swim in his pool so badly and he encoyraged ne too, but was too shy. From what I remember he was funny and hospitable and enjoyed having company over. I hope you all have an easy and peaceful grievance.

You were like a second father to me. Thank you for your encouraging words, support, and explanations for anything related to chemistry…although the knowledge and advice seemed to stretch well beyond that.
