It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Madeline Hiseler (nee Aucoin) on December 5, 2022 in Ottawa, Ontario with her husband Lindsay by her side.
Born and raised in New Waterford, Madeline was the daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth ‘Lizzie May’ (Deveaux) Aucoin of Cheticamp. She was a member of Mount Carmel Parish. Madeline left New Waterford at the age of 19 to “get a job”. After working in Ontario for several years, she returned to New Waterford for a short period of time where she was employed at the Bank of Nova Scotia and at the Fortress of Louisbourg. Madeline returned to Ontario and was employed by the Department of External Affairs, now Global Affairs Canada, until she retired.
Madeline and Lindsay shared a keen interest in antiques, paintings and books. She was a member of the War Museum, the Museum of History and the National Gallery where she often attended exhibitions and lectures.
Madeline and Lindsay shared the same sense of humour. They lived and laughed together.
Besides her loving husband, companion and best friend, Lindsay, she is survived by her brothers, Russell (Lorraine) and David (Susan) and brothers-in-law Dannie MacKinnon and George Hiseler (Jennifer) as well as her sisters-in-law Cindy and Donna Hiseler. She also is survived by nephews Donald MacKinnon (Wanda), Darnell MacKinnon, Joey Aucoin, Tomas Hiseler and Jonathan Hiseler and nieces Shauna MacKinnon Furlong, Jill Campbell, Tracey O’Reilly (Daryl), Shelley Biggs (Matthew) and Sarah Hiseler and other relatives and friends in New Waterford, Cheticamp, Ottawa and elsewhere.
Madeline was predeceased by her parents, her stepfather Charles Hache, her sisters Shirley, Patricia, Charlotte Jurcina and Rose MacKinnon and her brother Patrick.
Cremation and interment have taken place at Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa.
Lindsay, I'm sorry to hear about Madeline. It was through another colleague - we had all been on the same posting together - that I found out she had died. I enjoyed going to the Bytowne with Madeline and discussing the movie afterwards. She did have a good sense of humour and was truly fond of you. I would like to be able to visit her at Beechwood when I visit my mum and brother. I hope I can I find out through Beechwood cemetary where her plaque is located. Regards and condolences, Ann
