Lois Lecour

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Lois Patricia Lecour on February 13, 2026. Lois passed away quietly in her sleep following a brief illness, surrounded in spirit by the family she so dearly loved.

Born on May 31, 1935, in Port Arthur, Ontario (now Thunder Bay), Lois was raised amidst the rugged beauty of the Northwestern Ontario woods in the mining town of Madsen. As a young woman, she dreamed of seeing the world in the fashionable uniform of an airline stewardess. However, in 1954 at the age of 19, she chose a different fashionable uniform, joining the Royal Canadian Air Force.

It was during her first posting at CFS Foymount in the Ottawa Valley that she met the man of her dreams, Emmett "Joe" Lecour. Their meeting sparked a remarkable 70-year journey of devotion. They were married on May 19, 1956, and remained inseparable partners for 69 years of marriage until Joe’s passing just months ago in December 2025.

Lois’s dream of travel became a reality through military life. Shortly after their wedding, the couple moved to Zweibrücken, Germany, where they welcomed their first two sons, Larry (1957–2016) and David (1958). The European landscape eventually gave way to the coastal beauty of Cape Breton, where their third son, Daryll, was born in 1963. Lois embraced the nomadic life of a military spouse, supporting her family through numerous postings across Canada and the United States before finally settling in Ottawa for the past 30 years.

Whether she was decorating a new apartment in Germany or tending her garden in Ottawa, Lois made every house a sanctuary. A woman of many creative gifts, she expressed herself through her oil painting and the cheerful strumming of her ukulele. She was also a talented seamstress, meticulously sewing beautiful outfits for the little girls in her life and—much to their delight—matching wardrobes for their Barbies.

Lois was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joe, and her eldest son, Larry. Her legacy lives on through her sons, David (Anne) and Daryll (Suzanne); her cherished grandchildren, Amanda, Raija, Kayla (Scott), Daniel (Alyssa), and Patrick (Julie); and her adored great-grandchildren, Mateus and Violet.

Lois will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, her unwavering dedication to her family, and the quiet grace she carried throughout her life.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 23, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Beechwood Cemetery, Funeral and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Ave, Ottawa, ON). The family will receive condolences from 11:00 am until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Lois’s memory.
