It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Larry Edwin Olsen on July 14th, 2024 in Ottawa, ON. Larry passed away peacefully in his 73rd year, surrounded by his wife, after a courageous battle with cancer at the Queensway Carleton Hospital.
Larry was born on August 5th, 1950 in Bayfield, NB to parents Edwin Olsen and Shirley (Allen) Olsen.
Larry spent his early years in Bayfield, NB. He joined the Canadian army as a boy soldier under the Soldier Apprentice Program at 16. He served in various units until he retired as a Master Warrant Officer. After which he worked as a public servant until his retirement in 2022.
Larry met his wife, Shana in 1984, courting her over the next couple of years that led to marriage and a loving relationship over 40 years. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Shana and their son, Jeffrey and grandson, Noah. He is survived by his brother John, Richard, Wayne, Tony and sisters Deborah, Janice and Angela.
Larry loved to BBQ with friends and family with many warm memories over the years. He was known for his delightful hamburgers which friends and family called “Larry’s famous hamburgers.”
Larry will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Thank you to all who have met, cared for and loved our Larry.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service on Friday, July 26th at 1pm at Beechwood Cemetery (280 Beechwood Ave. Ottawa, ON).
In lieu of flowers, we would ask that you direct your time and money to various good causes throughout your own community or any contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
