It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Karen Marguerite Hughes (65) on June 12, 2024. Karen was born on October 26, 1958 in Ottawa, Ontario. She passed away peacefully at her home in Orleans after being diagnosed with cancer six weeks earlier. Karen was predeceased by her parents, Ernie and Leona Randall, brother Tom Randall and brother Larry Randall. She is survived by her husband Tim, sons Rod (Judith) and Brent (Amanda), grandchildren Tobin, Fiona and Addison, sisters Ruth, Cheryl (Pat), Arlene (Dan), Bonnie (Bob), Marilyn (Paul), Joyce (Jeff), brothers Ed (Janet), Eric (Julia), Mike (Karen) and Ken, and 21 great nieces and nephews.

Karen was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who brought joy to those around her with her positive outlook on life. She was active and lived a healthy lifestyle by visiting the gym and hiking often.

Her ashes will be inurned at the Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa, where a service will be held for family and friends on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 2 p.m., followed by a celebration of life in Orleans. In lieu of flowers, donations in Karen's memory can be made to the Ottawa Cancer Foundation.

Tim, I was so saddened to hear of Karen’s passing. Much too soon.

She was an inspiration for me and I’m sure many others. I have many , many wonderful memories. Our walks every morning with Max and Baillie, no matter the weather! Our evening get togethers with all our mutual friends, BBQs and our trip to Hawaii to name a few. I’m pretty sure you two were on the famous canoe trips on the Nottawasaga River too! Canoes tipped, downpours, getting lost when we passed the pick up spot! These are just some of the memories I have. Karen will always live in my memories and the many wonderful years together. Some of the things Karen, Deb and I talked about. So much fun. My life is better for having had Karen as my good friend. My condolences and hugs to you and your families. Until we meet again my friend. Debbie McGuire
