Surrounded by his loving family, Jose Armando Ticas passed away on December 20, 2021, at the age of 84. He leaves behind the love of his life, Felicita Marquez de Ticas, after 57 wonderful years of marriage. Jose has 9 children whom he loved dearly. Esmeralda (Omar), Yanira (David), Jose Armando (Rita), Edwin, Zaida (Edwin), Juan Carlos (Anuradha), Stanley (Colleen), Ana (Steven), and Walter (Barbara).  He was also a loving grandfather to Jessica (Carlos), David Omar (Laura), Gabriela (Martin), Byron Alexis, Andrea, Janet (Aaron), Aurora, Maria Eugenia, Estefania, Antoine, Felicity, Jacob, and Vivan; and great grandchildren Daniel, Sebastian Javier and Camila. Jose was a devoted family man through and through. Those closest to him lovingly called him “Papito“.

Jose was born and raised in Apastepeque, San Vicente, El Salvador, to his parents Leticia and Jose. He grew up in a large family, with many siblings. Jose loved the outdoors, boxing, football, and riding horses.  A man who valued education, he had a successful career in sales. A devout Catholic, Jose volunteered his time to numerous church initiatives, including Christian Family Movement, Opus Dei, The Cursillo movement, Marriage Encounters and as a church usher.

During a time of civil war, Jose made the courageous decision to immigrate his family to Canada in the hopes of a better future. He was active with various charitable events and helped new immigrants settle when they arrived in Ottawa. The Ticas household always had open arms to anyone seeking refuge or in need of company over the holidays. Jose loved helping others. His favorite pastimes included reading, fishing, gardening, and spending time with family. We will miss our “Papito” dearly and know that he continues to protect and watch over his family.  In our hearts we will hold his faith, hope, love, and his characteristic warm smile.

Our family wishes to send our deepest thanks to the doctors, nurses, and personal support workers at the Ottawa Hospital, particularly the General Campus and the Riverside Family Health Team.

In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to make charitable donations to organizations that he supported such as the Ottawa Food Bank, The Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Dementia Society of Ottawa, Eastern Ottawa Resource Centre, and the Ottawa Hospital Foundation.

Ana and family - my deepest sympathies. Through the love and care you showed your Dad, it was evident to me that he was a special man. To have him live and share with you and the girls - what special memories you have created. His legacy lives on with you as the apple didn't fall far from the tree! Take care of yourselves
