Passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at the age of 86. He leaves to mourn his children Alain (Lisa), and Ann (Jason Westerlund); his granddaughters: Carolyn Vachon (Justin Pollak), Danielle Vachon (predeceased 2002), Raquel Vachon, Georgia Vachon Westerlund, and Ruby Vachon Westerlund. He is survived by his sister Thérèse Nadeau (late Gilbert Nadeau) and his sister-in-law Margaret Graham (Pierre) and is predeceased by his brother and best friend Pierre (late Dorothy Anne Warner) and his sister Gisèle (late Jérôme Laberge). He finally joins the love of his life Bellita Martineau Vachon (1941-2019). Jean was an avid sailor and spent 5 years building his dream sailboat in the backyard. After its maiden voyage down the Rideau canal system from Ottawa to Kingston, he and Bellita spent years sailing the Thousand Islands. Equally avid travellers, they spent 30 years wintering in Portugal as their “pied à terre” while they explored Europe. He and Bellita will be remembered as founding members of the Rockland Food Bank. He supported many charities, in particular the Ottawa Mission, Cornerstone Housing for Women and the Ottawa Snowsuit Fund.
Jean’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 1:30 PM, at Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, 435 Montreal Road, followed by a reception held at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa. In lieu of flowers and to continue to recognize Jean’s very generous nature, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
