It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Jim at his home in the care of his beloved wife and best friend Mary Ellen Clancy on December 9, 2023.

Jim was the proudest father to Michael (Jodi) of Calgary and Robert of Regina.  He was the loving Grandpa Jim to Luke and Jules of Calgary.  Jim was predeceased by his parents Anthony (Tony) Lawford and Mary Lawford (nee Collins), his brother-in-law Ken Hogelie, all of Regina.

Jim is survived by his loving sister Lorraine Hogelie of Regina, special brother-in-law to Bernard Clancy (Shirley) of Haliburton ON, Marlene Diamond of Toronto, Pauline Clancy of Ajax ON Gerald Clancy of Toronto and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jim was a longtime friend of Bill W.

Visitation will take place at Beechwood Cemetery, 280 Beechwood Ave, Ottawa on December 16, 2023 between 10:00 am - 1:00 pm.  Service will follow at 1:00 pm, with a Reception afterwards.

Cremation has already taken place.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to the Ottawa Humane Society, Ottawa Food Bank or the Canadian Cancer Society.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.

I had the pleasure of working with Jim at HRDC early in my career - truly one of the kindest men I've ever met. He will be missed by many. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

Although I didn’t know Jim for very long, he a wonderful and kindhearted man. It was also very evident that Mary Ellen was the love of his life! My deepest condolences.

It is with great sadness and a world of regret that I learned of Jim's passing this past week. Jim was my sponsor, my mentor and a dear friend who never game up on me ans was always there for me no matter what difficulties he was going through. I loved him dearly and I was so lucky to have him in my life as were so many others, especially Mary Ellen whom he loved so much. Rest in peace Jim. You are the definition of a gentleman. You will forever be in my heart and all of those who were fortunate enough to know you.

Olivier H.
