Henry, a loving husband, father and grandfather, age 86, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2024, surrounded by family.
Devoted husband to Marian (Stephenson) of 55 years. Loving father to Eric (Renata), Thomas (Jennifer), Andrew (Julie), and Neil (Amanda). Extremely proud grandfather to Lauren, Matthew, Adam, Nicole, and Ben. Henry is survived by his brothers Michael, Stanley, Al, Dan, David, and their families; he was predeceased by his parents Alex Dzuba and Anna Dzuba.
Henry was an honoured and dedicated member of the RCMP (1957-1995) serving from various detachments in British Columbia, the Northwest Territories, New Brunswick, and HQ in Ottawa until his retirement. He retired as a Staff Sergeant; following his retirement he was an active and devoted member of the RCMP Veterans' Association for 25 years. Henry was committed to showing his support for all veterans by marching yearly in Ottawa's Remembrance Day ceremony. Henry was also a lifelong volunteer, giving his time to community events, minor hockey and soccer associations, and various national championships.
Returning to his farming roots of Canora, Saskatchewan, he found delight and solace in his happy place: the garden (in more recent years accompanied by his four-legged friends). Henry was consistently in the stands supporting the Ottawa 67's with both friends and family. He was proud of his heritage and later in life embarked on re-learning the Ukrainian language which was lost growing up in an era where society held a narrow view on what it meant to be 'Canadian'.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday May 10th from 11:30 to 1:30 pm followed by an interment at 1:30pm at Beechwood Cemetery/RCMP National Memorial Cemetery, 280 Beechwood Avenue in Ottawa.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Ottawa Hospital's General Campus ICU, specifically Dr. Simon (Huang), Dr. Kim, and Dr. Mathew. Heartfelt gratitude to the incredibly caring and kind ICU nurses including Lisa, Tina, Martin, Cait, Emma, and Marianne who cared for Henry as if he was one of their own family members; this care and compassion brought his family immense comfort and support when they needed it the most.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Canadian Blood Services or the Ottawa Humane Society would be appreciated.
"Tomorrow is another day!" - forever in our hearts.
