Passed away peacefully on July 22, 2024 at the age of 82.    He leaves behind his children, Noah Kitcher and Micah Kitcher. Emmanuel was predeceased by his loving wife, Peggy Steel and daughter Adrianna Steel.  Parents, Paul and Ellen, siblings, Elisheba, Paulina, Mary, Phoebe and Paul.

Emmanuel came to Canada in 1963 to study engineering at McMaster University and later pursued graduate studies at the University of Toronto. It was during his time at U of T that he met his future wife Peggy Steele. Upon conclusion of his studies, he relocated to Ottawa where he began what would be a 35 year career as a civil servant.

Not one to stand still, Emmanuel rose through the ranks while raising a family, teaching part time at Carleton University and Algonquin College, and leading many community initiatives. As one of the original builders at Lac McFee (Quebec), he served as president of the cottagers association for over a decade. Meanwhile, back in Carp he worked as a community organizer to develop a local recycling program.

Of his many accomplishments, Emmanuel's greatest pride was in the support he was able to give to those who worked and collaborated with him. Having lived through the struggles of building a life, family and career in Canada he always ensured that the door behind him was open for others to follow.

Family and friends are invited to the funeral on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at Beechwood Cemetery (280 Beechwood Ave. Ottawa, ON) at 2pm, followed by the burial.  In memoriam, donations can be made to the Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation.

Noah and Micah,

I was so saddened to hear that your father passed away. He was always so warm and caring whenever we would visit. My most prominent memory is his laugh - it was hearty and so easily given. My thoughts are with both of you. Sending all of my love .
