Passed away suddenly on Friday, December 1, 2023, at his home in Rockland; age 75. Beloved husband of Delores Cook. Stepfather of Jerry and Billy. Will be missed by his brothers Noel (Wanda), Bruce (Bonnie), Brian (Trudy), Robin (Starr), Colin (Anita), David (Joan) and Thomas (Shari) and by his sisters Barb (Bob), Susan, Nancy, Judy and Rita. Derek is predeceased by his parents late Tasker and Ruby Cook (nee McLeod) and by his sister, late Bethany Cook Free.
Derek served 40 years of Military service where his postings took him to Bermuda, Inuvik, N.W.T. Gander, Newfoundland, Kingston, Ottawa, St. John’s, Newfoundland, and Base Borden. He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, and friends, especially in the 291 Military Trade.
Funeral arrangements under the care a direction of Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa). A Graveside Service with Military Honours will be held in the spring in the National Military Cemetery located at Beechwood Cemetery. Details to follow.

The members of the Canadian Forces Supplementary Radio (SUPRAD) System Oldtimers Association were deeply saddened by Dick's passing. Dick was a regular at our SUPRAD Oldtimers get-togethers (GAGGLEs) at the Canadian Forces Station (CFS) Leitrim All Ranks Mess (ARM). His pleasant personality and entertaining sense of humour always made us laugh. All those who proudly served with Dick will forever remember all of the enjoyable times that were shared. His presence will definitely be missed. At the entranceway of the CFS Leitrim ARM there is a Tree of Life. One of the leaves on the tree has Dick's name on it. Now, in loving memory of Dick, a small bronze cross will be affixed to his leaf. Please know that as members of your extended military family, we will be keeping you in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
