It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara on Thursday, May 11th, 2023. She will be greatly missed by her loving daughter Erica, son-in-law Chris and cherished grandchildren Adam and Emma. She will be missed as well by her extended family Harriet Sinden, Ed & Janice Snyder and Tracy & Marc Doucette along with their families. Barbara was predeceased by her husband Kenyon Hughes and her sister Audrey Home. Barbara had a passion for life and truly enjoyed meeting new people wherever she went. She touched the hearts of so many with her infectious personality and witty sense of humour. Born and raised in South Wales, Barbara and her husband Ken emigrated to Canada in 1967, living in Montreal & Guelph before settling in Belleville for over 14 years and then finally calling Ottawa their home since 1989. Numerous friendships were developed over those years through Barbara's career at Sears, her sorority & charity involvements and dinner-club gatherings. Barbara was a caring and loving wife, mum and nana who would do anything for her family. She will be greatly missed, never forgotten and always loved. Our heartfelt thank you to the caregivers at The Courtyards on Eagleson for all their love and support. Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, May 24th at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Ave. Ottawa, ON) from 11-1pm followed by a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Dearest Erica, Chris, Adam and Emma, we are very sorry for your loss. Barbara was always so cheerful, positive and so lovely. She was quick with a joke and made everyone laugh and happy to be around her. She was an amazing Mum/Nana and friend who loved her family circle fiercely. We all loved her and will forever miss her. Love Tracy, Marc, Dustin, Emily, Shelby & Harriet xo
A visit with Barbara was always a pleasure and she was admired for her positive attitude towards life and living. Despite her many challenges she always kept her sense of humour . To Erica and family my deepest sympathy as you go through this time of sadness and grief.
