It is with a heavy heart that we announce Anna Mo-Lan Huang (née Lee Mo-Lan) passed peacefully on April 1, 2025, at the Ottawa Hospital General Campus at the age of 94 (her IDs said 93) after a short illness.  Anna will be missed by those who knew her, her kindness and smiles were noted by many.

Born in Lo-san, Henan Province, China on the 2nd day of the 2nd month on the lunar calendar in 1931 (approximated as February 2, 1931). This was incorrectly recorded as 1932 when she went to Taiwan in 1949. Anna was the youngest of 3 surviving children, but several older brothers predeceased her at very young ages between her 2nd brother and Anna. Anna is predeceased by her father Lee Jen-Shan, mother Lee Wang Shih, brothers Lee Chiu-Cheng (Chiung Yun) and Lee Cheng-Song (Hsien Chi) and all brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws on her husband Peter’s side of the family except for the wife of the youngest brother.

Anna left home and moved to Taiwan with her school when the Communist took over in 1949. Her second brother and sister-in-law moved there before, and she reunited with them in Taiwan.  She met Peter while she was a civilian switchboard operator at the Air Force base in Tainan where he was a lieutenant and communications specialist.  With a lot more men than women on the base, Anna was courted by many, but Peter and Anna fell in love.  They were married on August 14, 1955, in Tainan, Taiwan.

Anna later moved to work at the American airforce base in Tainan as a telephone operator after learning English with the help of the priest of the Catholic church she went to in Tainan.  When Peter worked at a semiconductor plant owned by Philips then General Instrument in Kaohsiung, Taiwan where as production manager in charge of 200 people, he worked 5 and half days a week and only home for one and half days on weekend.  Anna took charge of the family and the household while continuing to hold a full-time job at the American Airforce base for a number of years.   She was a very nice person and offered to be downsized when there was a need, rather than others that needed the income to support their family.

Wanting a better education for their children, Anna and Peter packed up their whole family and immigrated to Canada in 1976 and they settled in Ottawa when she was 44.  Anna took various jobs such as telephone operator, food service for airport catering, cashier in Ottawa and later helped Peter in running his grocery store until both of them retired in 1997.

Anna enjoyed the leisure of retired life with Peter until Peter’s paralyzing stroke had him moving into the Glebe Centre at the end of 2018 and Anna joined him there early in 2019.  Many at the Glebe Centre remember Anna’s smiles and her kind nature.

Anna was devoted wife of Peter (Huang) for 66 years when he predeceased her on March 16, 2022; loving mother to Lily Hsiung (Jim), Bill (Jessica Tsai) and Mary; cherished grandmother of Timothy Hsiung (Tina Tsai), Kimberly Hsiung, Jackie; and great-grandmother to Brian Hsiung, Connie Hsiung, and Liang Weber.  She is survived by one sister-in-law, many nephews and nieces with their offsprings too numerous to list.

Thanks to many nurses, PSWs and staff at the Glebe Centre LTC, 77 Monk Street for taking care of Anna (and Peter too before he passed).

Funeral service will take place on Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at: Beechwood Funeral Home – Beechwood's Sacred Space, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, ON K1L 8A6.  Online streaming link is available by registration at:

Mary, What a lovely tribute you have written for your mother. That she maintained a caring and generous spirit despite the political upheavals she endured, is a testimony to a brave and adenturous soul.

Anna impacted my life in many ways - love for others, infectious smile and especially her Faith, which was evident in her life and towards others.

I am so sad stricken at hearing of Huang mama's passing. Sorry to miss the streaming of the service by an hour or so.

Those of us who were fortunate to get to know her, will surely miss her constant smiles, friendship and sacrificial love for her children and those who have known her.
I would definitely want to visit her burial site when I get back to Ottawa area someday. May God grant her eternal love and peace.
