Beechwood has been fortunate to nourish a strong relationship with the National Capital Region’s significant French Canadian population. To facilitate this, Beechwood has dedicated itself to employing staff members who can effectively operate in both of Canada’s official languages.
Beechwood is proud to acknowledge that, as partners in the founding of a great nation, many of our region’s French Canadians have selected Beechwood as their final resting place, and have embraced it as their preferred provider of funeral and funeral alternatives, cemetery and cremation services.
In addition, several organizations within the French community have selected Beechwood as their preferred service provider. In return, Beechwood is proud to offer members of these organizations significant savings on many of Beechwood’s offerings. These organizations are
- Rendez-vous des aînés francophones d’Ottawa (RAFO)
- Centre Séraphin-Marion d’Orléans
- Club Richelieu International
- Retraite en Action
- Le centre Pauline-Charron
Fun fact, a statue of Élisabeth Bruyère and St. Marguerite d'Youville was unveiled in Section 110 from the fundraising efforts of The Beechwood Cemetery Foundation and committee members from the francophone community.
The monument was sculpted by Canadian artist Achim Arthur Klaas and honourably dedicated to two remarkable French Canadian women: St. Marguerite d’Youville was the foundress of the Grey Nuns of Montréal, and was the first Canadian-born woman to be canonized; and Élisabeth Bruyère who was a member of the Grey Nuns and was chosen by the congregation to found the Sisters of Charity of Ottawa. Élisabeth Bruyère is also recognized in Ottawa for her pioneering work in establishing the first bilingual schools of (the then City of) Bytown, a General Hospital, an orphanage and a home for the elderly.
