It is with great sadness that the family of Yvonne Terada (née Tanemura) announces her passing on November 16, 2024 at the age of 87 from Lewy Body dementia-related complications.

Yvonne was born in Salmon Arm, B.C. to Take and Ichitaro (Archie) Tanemura on May 25, 1937.  Survived by brother Wayne (Kathy) and many, many nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by her parents and by her siblings Gertie (Yosh), Ken (Kiyoe), Dorothy (Sam), Molly (Art), Hana (Glen surviving), Ada (Ed), Tom (Ann surviving), Mary (Yosh), niece Jil and nephews Spencer, Ryan and Gary.

Yvonne and Takeru (Tak) would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary next month.  Yvonne is cherished by Tak and her four children: Wendy (Brian), Randall, Sharon and Greg (Peggy) and loved by her grandchildren Jordan, Matthew, Kate, Sarah and ‘bonus’ grandchildren Kyle, Kurt, Joseph and Ryan.

Yvonne embraced technology even before her children did. In the late 1970s she was managing teams of punch card data entry clerks and by the early 1980s Tak and Yvonne purchased their first Commodore 64 computer. Yvonne created her own database of recipes long before app stores existed.  As a young girl Yvonne taught herself to play piano; she led Tak around the ballroom dance floor with ease and grace; took up golf later in life; knitted/crocheted without dropping a stitch while at the same time watching her beloved sports on tv.  Her butter tarts and apple pies were legendary; her experimental low-fat, low-sugar muffins were not quite as popular.  Yvonne was a prolific reader; expert at Sudoku; and knew dozens of phone numbers by heart long before technology took over.  She was small but mighty, warm hearted and quick to laugh.  Although gone from our sight, never from our hearts.  We will miss her.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of the amazing caregivers who provided compassionate care to Yvonne over the past five and a half years. Your kindness, dedication, and support will never be forgotten. You truly made a difference, and we are forever grateful.

Finally, the family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Palliative Care Unit of the Great War Memorial Hospital - Perth Site for their care and compassion.

Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Yvonne's Life on Saturday December 7th at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Ave., Ottawa from 1 to 4 p.m.

Interment on a future date at Mount Ida Cemetery in Salmon Arm, B.C.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the hospice hub would be appreciated.

We will miss this beautiful lady who made us so welcome to Canada many years ago. She taught Monica the art of making sushi and other Japanese delicacies and invited us to spend a typical Japanese New Year with her family. We have many wonderful memories of Yvonne and Tak and their children Wendy, Randy Sharon and Greg to whom we send our most heartfelt sympathy. She continues to smile in our memories.

I (Glen) have known Yvonne since she was a teenager, and will always remember her as a beautiful, kind, quick-witted person. During business trips to Ottawa my sister-in-law (Yvonne)would invite me to dinner with her family. I have many fond memories of those wonderful meals and charming, informed conversations during those visits. I will miss her. We thank Wendy and Brian for the loving care provided Yvonne for over five years. Our sincerest, deeply heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family.

To the Terada Family - we are so sorry for your loss. We have such fond memories of Yvonne and she will always hold a special place in our hearts.
She had such a joy for life - some memories that will always play in our minds are the dancing practices with Tak, her piano playing, her hospitality - the way she welcomed and included us in family gatherings and always made us feel at home. We shared many happy memories and we will miss her very much.
Our thoughts are with you all.
