Blanche Begin, a woman renowned for her infectious smile, warm hospitality, and unwavering spirit, passed away peacefully on August 14th, 2024, at the age of eighty-nine, surrounded by her loving family.

Beloved wife to Fred for an enduring 67 years, Blanche was a cherished mother to Jacquie, Linda (Scott), Michael (Shelly), and Karilyn. She was an adored grandmother to Elisha, Matthew, Nikki, Brayden, Benjamin, Ayden, and Skyler, and a treasured great-grandmother to Jonathan and William. Her brother Lloyd and sister-in-law Marjorie, along with several nephews and nieces, also mourn her loss.

A graduate of Moncton High School in 1953, Blanche's life intertwined with Fred’s when she was just sixteen. Their young love blossomed into a lifelong partnership, marked by countless adventures. Fred’s 37-year military career, culminating as Director General of Dental Services, took them on a whirlwind journey across Canada, Germany, and beyond. Through it all, Blanche was his steadfast companion, their love story is a testament to enduring partnership.

From bank teller to school secretary, Blanche’s career was as diverse as her interests. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone as she managed the CFB Borden Thrift Shop and later thrived in retail sales. Amidst the moves and responsibilities, she always found time for her passions: Bingo, ceramics, quilting, puzzles, and books.

A self-proclaimed Trekkie, Blanche's love for Star Trek was only rivaled by her enjoyment of game shows and crime dramas. The "TV wars" between Blanche and Fred, with Kari as the unsuspecting mediator, were a source of endless amusement for the family. Their house, equipped with several televisions, was a testament to their individual entertainment preferences.

Despite their differences in thermostat settings, Blanche and Fred shared a deep love and respect for each other. Their annual family gatherings to Moncton for lobster, crab and fried clams were a cherished tradition. International travels to Europe, South America, Asia, and beyond enriched their lives, creating a treasure trove of memories.

Blanche’s sociable nature made her the heart of every gathering. Her beautifully presented meals and warm welcome were legendary. She was deeply respected and admired by her family, friends, and the communities she touched.

Blanche loved and admired her many doctors, nurses and hospital staff during her stays at the Montfort Hospital and the Heart Institute.  All who looked after her were impressed by her courageous battle with inoperable heart disease which she met with the same grace and optimism that defined her life.  Her contagious smile and positive attitude up to the end made her the darling of the entire hospital staff.

Blanche’s legacy is one of love, resilience, and joy. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A funeral mass will be held Aug 27th, 2024:

10:00AM at Divine Infant Church (6658 Bilberry Dr, Orléans, ON)

12:00PM Celebration of Life and reception at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, (280 Beechwood Ave., Vanier, ON).
