Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Joyce Cooke, passed away on August 1st, 2024, at the age of 88 following a long and courageous journey with dementia.

Joyce was the beloved bride and best friend of Jim Cooke who passed away in 2013.  Together they shared 54 wonderful years of marriage and built a family filled with love, kindness, and countless cherished memories. Joyce was a devoted mother to four children Cheryl (Michael McFaul), Brenda (Barry Desormeaux), Jim (Monique Desjardins), and Kimberley, each of whom she loved deeply and unconditionally.

Joyce was the heart and soul of our family. Her nurturing nature, kind heart, devotion to celebrating special family moments and playful nature, will be forever remembered by her eight grandchildren: Corey (Chanelle), Krista (Kiefer), Courtney, Christopher (Amanda), Shane, Kyle, Andrew (Lauren) and Jonathan (Lourdes).  Her loving and feisty spirit will live on in the hearts of her great grandchildren Ella, Harlow, Wolfe, Juniper and Amelia.

Joyce was the daughter of the late Joseph Tremblay and Marie St Louis. She was the baby sister to 10 predeceased siblings Anita, Ev, Dorothy, Olive, Alma, Don, Jean, Lorna, Gerald and Gary and one living sister Catherine.

A visitation will take place on Saturday, August 10
th in the Sacred Space of the Beechwood National Memorial Centre at 12pm.  A celebration of life will follow at 1pm.  The interment will take place privately with only family in attendance. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the home where Joyce was cared for over the last eight years. Contributions can be made online to the St. Patrick’s Home of Ottawa Foundation https://stpatsfoundation.ca.

Joyce’s family would like to thank Dr. Uppal and all the staff at St Patrick’s Home that supported Joyce along her journey.

Rest in peace, dear Mom. We will listen for your whistles from heaven!

Joyce was like a bonus grandmother to me, loved seeing her every day that I got to see her. She loved her family and made everyone around her feel so welcome. Spread your wings Joyce and catch up with your soulmate xo

The one thing I will remember about Mrs. Cooke is her never ending smile. The kindness in her eyes and smile filled our unit with warmth and peace. I will always cherish those first few years caring for Mrs. Cooke, as she accompanied me along the unit when I worked evenings. Those walks together have a very special place in my heart. My deepest condolences to Mrs. Cooke's family. Mrs. Cooke's love for her children knew no bounds, and one could feel that love radiate among the entire family. It was nothing short of an honor to have known and cared for such a Beautiful, kind woman who encompasses every definition of the love of a mother to her children. I am all the better a person for having Mrs. Cooke in my life. Rest in Peace, "Beautiful lady ". You are dearly missed.

My dad was in care with Joyce 10 years ago. I can still picture them cruising up and down the halls with smiles and of course that famous whistle from Joyce. I was blessed with Kim's friendship throughout this time when she cared for her mom. I know Joyce will be missed by many. I pray she is dancing and smiling with the love of her life. 🙏
