My sister Joan, or "Miss Dunn" as so many of her former students knew her, has sadly passed away as a result of a fall at home on May2nd, resulting in pneumonia which she was not able to overcome. It never seemed like this would end her life.
She loved teaching and her students with an enduring passion. Even after she retired she continued to help so many students by tutoring, even up to the week before her fall. She started her teaching career at Heron Park Public school in 1969, moved to Riverview PS in 1982, and finished her career at Featherston PS from 1988-1997. Over her career she taught every grade level from Grades 1-6, and tutored so many students over the years from Grades 1-12.
She was much loved by her parents Elsie and Les Dunn (predeceased) and by her sister Joyce Chartrand and her husband Denis and their 4 children: Alain (Jasmine), Emilie (Martin), Nicolas (Kasia), Justin (Lissa). She excelled at being a "great" great-aunt to her 6 great nephews and great nieces: Célina (predeceased), Téo, Félix, Ori, Ani and Nico. She always found the cutest birthday cards and most wonderful outfits for them to wear. Anyone who knew Joan knew how much she loved to shop, and how beautifully she dressed!
There were beautiful aurora borealis that night to welcome her to the night skies.
There will be a small visitation at Beechwood Cemetery on Saturday May 18, we welcome any friends who would like to say goodbye to drop in between 2-4pm. The private interment will be at a later date.

I had the pleasure of teaching with "Miss Dunn" at Heron Park School from 1975 to 1977. I taught French to
the kindergarten and special
education classes. Unfortunately I lost track of the staff at the school as I had to accompany my husband on overseas postings. But I haven't forgotten sweet Miss Dunn, Bonnie Tyler's rabbit and the wonderful special Ed teachers.
Sincere condolences to the Dunn family.

I taught with Joan at Heron Park - I taught at the other end of the school, I was a grade 4 to 6 teacher. She was a dedicated teacher and had a quiet but firm personality.
