After courageously enduring thirty-eight years of multiple sclerosis, Edward Daniel Spooner (Dan), 71, of Ottawa, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family early morning at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Ottawa, Ontario (May 13, 2024).
He was born in Ottawa, on December 28, 1952, to the late Donald Charles Spooner and late Ghislaine Marie Spooner (Belanger).
He was the beloved husband of Beth Spooner (nee Ney) and proud father of Daniel (Heather) and Shae (Johnathan); proud grandfather of Elliot and Emmet (Spooner) and Isabella, Hannah, and Olivia (Lynch); beloved brother of Jim, Brenda Gebert (Grant), Donna Spooner (Ron) and the late Rosonna Tite (Ellen Chapple) and late Steven. Beloved brother-in-law of Robert and Karen (Ney), Bill and Micheline (Ney) and Robin and Karl (Krueger); and proud Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Dan was loved by all who crossed his path.
Dan had a successful career in the Department of National Defense. He was an avid gardener, guitarist, painter, and his greatest joy was designing and building his cottage.
Dan was supported by numerous caregivers throughout his life, most notably, Jose Saravia and Monica Richards. Special thanks to all of the staff at St. Vincent’s Hospital for their loving care and support over the last nine years. A private family service will be held at a later date.
