Donald Joseph Evoy, affectionately known as Don, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2024, in Ottawa, at the age of 81. Born on January 13, 1943, in Montreal, he was the son of the late Clarence and Yvonne Evoy. Don was predeceased by his beloved wife Heather, his brother Wilfred, and sisters Marie and Shirley. He is survived by his brother Henry (Nancy), numerous nieces and nephews, and a wide circle of friends and former colleagues from around the world.

Don embarked on a distinguished military career at the tender age of sixteen, enlisting in the Canadian Army and eventually achieving the rank of Captain. His service was marked by a commitment to peace and duty, including a notable tenure with the United Nations peacekeeping forces in the Congo. Don's military career allowed him to touch many lives across Canada, the United States, Europe, and Africa.

Beyond his professional life, Don shared a passion for travel and community engagement with his first wife, Heather. They were active participants in a walking group, where they forged lasting friendships during organized walks globally. Following his retirement in Victoria, BC, and as Heather’s health declined, Don dedicated himself as her steadfast caregiver. The couple eventually moved to the Ottawa area to be closer to family, where Don continued his role until Heather’s passing in 2009.

In 2011, Don married Janet, and although their marriage eventually concluded, they remained friends. Don will be remembered for his generous spirit, sense of duty, and the deep connections he fostered throughout his journey. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

A graveside service will be held at the National Military Cemetery of Canada (280 Beechwood Ave. Ottawa, ON) on Thursday, May 2nd, 2024 at 11:30, followed by a celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
