Anand Acharya

Our deepest condolences on the passing of Anand. We met thru the 4H program in Langley, BC. My parents were the leaders, Mr. And Mrs. Acharya were supportive and involved parents and all of us kids benefitted from the years of public speaking, leadership training and showing cattle. I recall a new award that was started for our year end banquet. It was an award that encompassed helpfulness, willingness, strong character… and yes, Anand earned this every year. He was a role model for all. Our family is praying for you all- strength and healing but also cherishing every memory of such an amazing person.

Over the many years of our friendship with Nina, memories of hangouts and high school sleepovers at her house feature prominently. Along with those times spent at the Acharya house came the privilege of talking with Anand. He was the most gracious and enthusiastic host— always excited to hear about our lives and latest exploits as we have grown up and moved around the country, and always ready to offer a snack or an espresso prepared at his new coffee station in the kitchen. We are so glad and grateful to have known him, and we will miss his warm greeting the next time we are together in Ottawa.

It’s hard to keep track of how much Nina has hosted, supported, rallied, and inspired us through the years, and it is easy to see (through our own interactions with him, and through stories shared here) how those qualities trickled down from Anand.

Nina, Jas, and Kusum— we are so sorry for your loss and hope you can take comfort from all the love and memories shared on this page.

I am heartbroken with the news of Anand’s illness and passing . I attended elementary and high schools with Anand as well as both being members in the 4-H club. I always thought of him as a great human being , with a beautiful smile. I always wanted to connect through the years , unfortunately I did not get the chance . My sincere condolences to all his family .

It is incredibly difficult to sum up, in a few words, the thoughts that can be said of Anand. I first met him when he was a student in Moose Jaw. I was impressed by his character and desire to do excell in all that he chose to do. We lived together in Edmonton and while the rest of us were out in search of the next big party; Anand was able to find a balance between pursuing his interests and still having fun with us. I always admired his ability to have such balance in his life. Between family, work, continuous learning and exploring life, he managed to enjoy life to the fullest.
He will be sorely missed by all that knew him but serve as an inspiration to us all.

Kusum, Jasmine and Nina, how sorry I am for your loss. Anand was one of the most positive people I have ever met, never without a big smile. And such a generous person, too. I remember one day in the school parking lot when he saw I had a flat tire and just jumped right in to help. He lived a life full of incredible achievements, but was a humble person. That life was too short though, and I'm so sorry.

Although we hadn't seen Anand since high school, we will always remember him as the most genuine and delightful person we have ever had the privilege to know.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Anand while we served together at 435 Squadron right after the squadron moved to Winnipeg from Edmonton. It came as a shock to hear of his recent passing. I extend my sincere sympathy to his family, former colleagues and friends.

So sad to hear this. I was in Delta flight with Anand for rook term and flew together on many C-130 flights and missions with him at 435 Squadron. I will always remember his integrity, kindness, and professionalism. He had a good sense of humour and little patience for fools and bullshit. My heart goes out to his family. ❤️

Dear Kusum, Nina, and Jasmine,
We are so saddened to read this tragic news (first in a Carleton newsletter). We have very fond memories of wonderful evenings spent with you, and your warm welcome when we moved to the same street as you. We also loved to hear about Anand's PhD research and his work as a pilot, among his many interests. Our thoughts are with you, and we hope to have an opportunity to catch up with you soon.

I was so sorry to hear the news of Anand's passing. I was fortunate to have met the Acharya family through Anjali when I lived out West. Anjali's parents warmly welcomed me into their family home on many occasions, one of which was a larger family event where I met Anand and his family. Anand shared the same warmth and hospitality that I had seen his sister Anjali and his parents display. My sincere condolences to the Acharya family on your loss - Anjali, Padma, Jana, Kusum, Nina and Jasmine. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
