The world lost a truly kind and loving mother, sister, aunt, in-law, grandmother and friend on the 16th of February, 2024 when Dorothy Josephine Page passed peacefully at Shawville Long Term Care Facility.
Born Dorothy Josephine Hodd on 24th of May,1940 in Saint John, NB , and affectionately called Dottie, she was the oldest of 5 children (Sally Reed, William Hodd, Margie MacLeod, Joseph Hodd) born to Edward and Edith Hodd (nee Primmer).
After completing High School at Saint John Vocational, she worked at Consumers Coal and G E Barbour’s before moving to Camp Borden ON in 1958 to help her cousin. While in Borden, she met the love of her life and married Private Ronald Leonard Page on the 29th of November 1958. They started a family in Angus, ON with their first son, John Blaine, (Alana/Maryanna) arriving in September 1959, followed closely by Stephen Douglas (Sheri-Lyn; Samantha, Sydney) in September 1961, and Carolyn Susan (Howard; Cameron, Robin) in April 1964 after relocating to Orleans, ON.
In addition to being a mom, Dorothy continued to maintain a full-time job when the children were in school, starting in 1970. She worked at CANEX, and on relocation to Ottawa (Aylmer Qc) had a rewarding career with Scotiabank spanning 25+ years. After retirement, Dottie and Ron spent the majority of their time at their beloved cottage on Lac Michel, until Ron's passing in April 2013.
Dottie stayed busy volunteering in her community at the Royal Canadian Legion, delivering Meals on Wheels (going beyond by dropping off extra food and hand knit blankets), and freely giving her time and skills to local women's groups. She maintained strong friendships with her girlfriends with whom she shared many home-cooked meals and adventures.
Later, she was fortunate enough to find a second love, Gary Henink and they supported each other, enjoying dancing, travelling and giving to the community.
Dottie was well-read, kept journals, loved to dance, dress up and socialize, and unfailingly offered to help out. She had a silly side and laughed a lot, always entertaining her granddaughters. Most of all ,she adored being warm in the sunshine which is fitting as she thought of herself as a butterfly.
Dorothy will be greatly missed by family and friends and those who looked after her so lovingly at the Shawville Long Term Care Facility. Her life was truly well-lived. A Celebration of Life will be held at Beechwood National Military Cemetery on 02 March 2024. Interment at 10:30 AM followed by reception at 11: 00-13:00.
