In Loving Memory of Bill Wong
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Sze Hay Wong, beloved husband, father, and friend. Bill peacefully departed this world on December 18, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, and a passion for life. He is survived by his devoted wife, Cecillia Cheung, who stood by his side in times of adversity and prosperity, his beloved daughter, Jennifer Wong, and his loving sons Albert Wong and Alvin Ng, daughter-in laws Ming Ho and Claire Chuang, and granddaughter Elena Ng. Bill is lovingly remembered by his surviving sister, Shirley (Frank) Toye, and brother, Yeung (Bing) Wong.
Born on June 15th, 1940, in Toisan, Guangdong, China, Bill was known for his strong work ethic and his commitment to his family. His dedication to excellence was evident in every aspect of his life, whether it was his education (McMaster University, engineering), career, or his community involvement. Bill's impact reached far beyond the walls of his home, touching the lives of friends, colleagues, and acquaintances.
Bill was first united in matrimony with Simone Kam Sim Wong in 1970. Their shared journey was a testament to the power of love and dedication. Simone brought joy, warmth, and unwavering support to Bill, Jennifer and Albert. Her memory will forever be cherished as an integral part of their story.
Later in life, Bill found companionship, happiness and love once again with Cecillia. Their union was a testament to the resilience of the human heart and the capacity to find love anew. Cecillia infused love, dancing and a sense of travel and adventure into Bill’s life, and her devotion brought strength and comfort during challenging times.
In addition to his role as a loving husband and father, Bill was a cherished friend. His easygoing nature and sense of humour endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Bill lived a fulfilling life marked by his numerous interests and contributions to those around him. He embraced a multitude of passions, deriving happiness from the joy and physical activity of both badminton and tennis. His agile feet elegantly glided across ballroom dance floors, be it in Ottawa or on a cruise exploring diverse corners of the globe. For more than a decade, Bill dedicated his time as one of the volunteers responsible for coordinating the weekly social dance parties at the Ottawa Chinese Heritage Centre every Saturday. Beyond his recreational pursuits, Bill was an astute investor, who enjoyed talking about his dividend-producing stocks and some high-flying technology stocks.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to two organizations. Contributions to the Ottawa Network for Education (Junior Achievement Ottawa) can be made at https://onfe-rope.ca/get-involved/donate/?form=TributeDonations, helping address critical issues facing Ottawa's children and youth, by removing barriers to learning and providing opportunities to students across the city, in all four school boards. Help local students finish school prepared to take on the world.
Additionally, donations to the Scleroderma Research Foundation can be made at https://www.scleroderma.ca/donate. Donations will be used to support public awareness, patient advocacy, education and research for this rare disease.
The family expresses gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. Bill's memory will be forever cherished, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and warmth he so generously gave during his time with us.

Dearest Uncle Bill, you will always be remembered in our Lam Family. I played tennis with you as child so many years ago at the Sudbury Secondary School tennis courts; your fierce full body forehand was a shot to contend with and is now a legend. Thanks for practicing with me all those Saturday mornings, as I really enjoyed those sessions. Every shot is in now, none are out. Love, Rob

Our deepest condolences to Cecilia and your family. May Bill rest in peace. Bill always came to us to chat during the social dance at Glebe CC. He always said “Go! Go! Go dancing!” when the Tango or Waltz music was playing (he knew we love Tango and Waltz dance). We will remember Bill.
