With the heaviest of hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Ashley on Wednesday December 13, 2023, at the age of 39. Surrounded by her loving parents, Daniel and Cheryl, her sister Robyn and fiancé Chris, Ashley’s suffering has finally ended.
Ashley was always a fighter, never giving up. Starting with type 1 diabetes at the age of 12, Ashley dealt with serious medical issues her entire life. From early on to her greatest battle with metastatic breast cancer in March 2023, she never quit the fight.
She underwent many types of treatment to beat this horrific disease and did so with bravery, integrity and grace. She so desperately wanted more time with her family and friends (as we all did, too), and was willing to undergo more chemotherapy, radiation and other treatments to continue fighting.
Ashley’s memory will live on through her parents, sister, future brother-in-law, extended family, friends, and her soon-to-be nephew.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Ashley on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Ave., Ottawa, ON. The Celebration will begin at 10:00 am with a service for family and friends to share memories, followed by a reception.
The family kindly requests donations to the Diabetes Association of Canada and/or to Breast Cancer Canada, instead of flowers.
Gone too soon, but never forgotten.

We met Ashley through Linda many years ago and remember so many wonderful parties and events together. Seeing Ashley shine as Linda's maid of honour on the beach will remain strong and bright in our memories. She will be missed.

Our work regularly intersected for over a decade. In that time came to appreciate Ashley's intellect and dedication to our work, and I'll miss the side conversations and jokes we would often share.
More recently, I really appreciated our T1D-related discussions as a result of my son being diagnosed T1D nearly two years ago. Ashley, with all too much experience managing the same disease, was open with her experiences. She offered to speak with him anytime he would like, if he ever wanted to talk to a "grown-up" who went through the same things he's going through now.
RIP Ashley, and condolences to her family.
Ashley was an amazing colleague during my many years at the Department of National Defence. She and I started our careers at DND around the same time and I admired her professionalism, intelligence and charisma. Reading all of these messages from family, friends and colleagues, it is apparent that she made a lasting impact in many lives and she will be deeply missed. My condolences to her family who lost her at such an early age. Sending my thoughts and well wishes to everyone impacted by this great loss.
