Gottlieb “Nicholas” Bretzer left us with his family by his side at the Perley Health Centre on December 7, 2023.
Nick was born on a Farm in Unity Saskatchewan on March 7, 1936.
Nick had an impressive work history and started with the CN railroad as a young man and then served 20 years in the armed forces and was stationed in Ottawa, Whitehorse, Edmonton, Baden and Belgium to name a few, he climbed to the sergeant position. He later then joined the communications security establishment for the Canadian government for which he worked in for 26 years in management.
Nick had a great curiosity for books, politics, world history and trains and woodworking. He loved his music and collecting things.
Nick is predeceased by his Father Liberatus Bretzer and Mother Grace Walz, and his daughter Kim. He is survived by his dear wife Shirley (Van Dyke) of 66 years. Proud adoring father to Randy (Colleen Preziosi) Adoring Papa to Candace (Shaun Barattia) Loving grandfather to Adam and Joshua (Julia Jadzinski) Great Grandfather to Grace, Lucy and Anthony. Dear Brother to Gloria (Marcel Bessette) and Jean (Ross Harcourt) and loving Uncle and Cousin and friend to many.
Nick’s presence will be greatly missed by those close to him. He was adored by many. God Bless you Papa Nick. Rest Easy.
Family and friends are invited to the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Avenue, on Thursday, December 14, 2023 for a Service to honour Nick at 10:00AM. Reception to follow.
