We great sadness we announce the passing of Catherine Larose, who passed away on September 8, 2023, at the age of 45. She was the daughter of Fernand Larose and Jocelyne Coulombe, and the wife of Martin Sampson. She is survived by her stepchildren, Alexandre and Catherine Sampson (Leonel Cuero); her grandchildren, Lukas and Eduardo Cuero Sampson; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and their children, aunts and uncles, godchildren, cousins, as well as many friends and colleagues.

Catherine loved meeting new people and discovering new places, whether it was for a coffee, a meal out or travelling to any destination. In addition to working for the federal public service since 2001 in human resources, where she left her mark through her dedication and enthusiasm, she volunteered with Tel-Aide Outaouais and became very involved in raising awareness of lung cancer and the importance of research to find new treatments. She has also been involved with a number of lung cancer organizations, including Lung Cancer Canada, the White Ribbon Project, Wellspring Canada and the Lungevity Foundation. Despite the terrible diagnosis of lung cancer in November 2020, Catherine never stopped believing in life, smiling as only she could, thinking of others, and radiating energy and exemplary courage.

The family wishes to thank the Centre d'oncologie de Gatineau and the palliative care team at the Hull Hospital, as well as all those who cared for Catherine over the past three years.

The family will receive condolences on Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at 10 a.m., at the same location.

At Catherine's request, your sympathy can be expressed through a memorial donation to support lung cancer research through her friend Jillian Kingston's fund at https://supportthepmcf.ca/PDPMemorial/jillianlungcancerlegacyfund/ and/or the Guy Lafleur Fund at https://fondationduchum.com/fonds-guy-lafleur/

Douceur & amour.

Catherine, thank you for reaching out to me as we both navigated our new diagnosis. You were as generous as you were kind. I hate the circumstances under which we met, but I cannot help but be grateful that our paths crossed. Your light shone so brightly and you helped so many grow. May those who love you find some peace and joy.

Catherine a été une amie de l’école primaire. On s’est croisé dans notre vie professionnelle. Toutes mes condoléances à sa famille et particulièrement à Martin avec qui j’ai aussi travaillé. Quelle triste nouvelle. Bon courage.
