劉國柱 先生  Peter Kwok Chu Lau

Passed away peacefully in Ottawa on June 4th, 2023, Peter had just celebrated his 87th birthday three weeks earlier at home with his family. Peter will be missed and fondly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Eva; sons: Michael, Philip (King), William (Vincent); grandsons: Chi Nam (Samantha), Chi Lam (Queenie) and his great-grandson Jasden.

Peter was born and educated in Hong Kong’s St. John’s English School. While excelling in his senior years at school, he already showed a keen interest in public service and joined the Civil Aid Service (an auxiliary civil organization) in 1954. He started working as a civil servant right after leaving school and successfully raised a family.

After completing 36 years of service with the British Colonial Government of Hong Kong, he immigrated to Canada and resided in Ottawa for the past thirty years.  In his retirement years, he spent most of the time volunteering with Lung Kong Tin Yee organization as an executive, participating in activities from Yet Keen Chinese Seniors’ Day Centre and The Good Companions. His hobbies included traveling, reconnecting with worldwide friends and relatives, hiking, photography, and karaoke.

Friends and Family are invited to visit Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa on Tuesday, June 13th from 12 noon. A Celebration of Life will be held in Beechwood’s National Memorial Centre from 1 pm to 1:30 pm with interment to follow at Beechwood Cemetery – section 18 at 2:15 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial donations to Yet Keen Seniors’ Day Centre or to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation.

Livestreaming of the funeral ceremony on June 13, 2023 beginning at 12:45 PM (Eastern Daylight Time) is available for guests and family members who wish to view remotely. Please note that you are required to pre-register using an email by following the Livestreaming link above.
