It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Josephine “Jo” Terris (née Clarke) on May 17, 2023, a woman whose vibrant spirit and quick wit made life an absolute delight. Jo loved and lived life to the fullest, and she spent her final days surrounded by family after a brief, yet courageous, battle with cancer.
Jo was the loving and adored wife of Robert “Bob,” with whom they shared almost 58 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and companionship. Their bond was unbreakable, and they created a lifetime of beautiful memories together.
Jo’s children, Sean (Melynda Layton) and Susan (Denis Chouinard) were her pride and joy. She was a dedicated mother, always providing a loving home and unwavering encouragement to her children. Her support, guidance and unconditional love shaped their lives.
Jo was immensely proud of her grandchildren, Jack, Julian, Olivia, and Madelaine. She cherished the time spent with them, watching them grow and sharing in their accomplishments. Whether attending their school events, cheering them on at sporting activities, or simply spending quality time together, her love for them knew no bounds. She was their biggest fan and a constant source of love and support.
Jo was born in Twillingate, NL on June 20, 1942, to the late Clementine (née Roberts) and Edward “Ned” Clarke. She shared fond childhood memories with her siblings Len, Margaret & Dick whom she has joined in Heaven. She will be greatly missed by her little sis, Phyllis Budgell (Dennis), her brother-in-law, Kevin (Paulette) and sister-in-law, Allana, as well as all of her nieces and nephews.
Jo’s legacy extends beyond her immediate family. She had a wide circle of friends who were fortunate to have shared in her life. Jo loved her get-togethers with family and friends, all while enjoying a glass of white wine with lots of ice. Travelling was another great joy in her life. Whether it was wintering in warm destinations or jumping on the next cruise, she loved exploring new places, experiencing different cultures, and of course, looking for the next best place to shop.
Jo’s infectious laughter and warm smile filled every room she entered, leaving a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to have known her. May her spirit continue to brighten our lives, reminding us to hug our loved ones, treasure our friendships, and never take ourselves too seriously.
The family would like to thank Dr. Tara Jennings and the team at the Home and Community Care Support Services Champlain, as well as the team of nurses and care givers for their outstanding level of care and compassion.
As per Jo’s wishes, a private family service and internment will be held on May 25th, 2023 in The RCMP National Memorial Cemetery at Beechwood Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held on July 16, 2023 from 1pm to 4pm at ALE (Amberwood Lounge & Eatery), 54 Springbrook Drive, Stittsville, where family and friends will be able to share memories, laughter and a glass of wine.

I met dear sweet Jo in Florida many years ago. There was a " Newfoundland connection " among many other vibes. Meeting up again in Portugal in recent years was so very special. She always made me feel so valued. Jo had a way of making all her friends feel important but it was her family she treasured most. My sincere sympathy for your loss.

Having both been born & raised in Newfoundland we made an instant connection. She was such a genuine person & had a special way of making friends feel valued. Our deepest sympathies to Bob, Kevin, Paulette and all your families on the very sad passing of Jo. We remember well your visit to Ireland a few years ago to reconnect with Irish relations and explore Cork city and surrounds. We also enjoyed seeing your holidays and the various places you ate and visited on Facebook. Jo was a bundle of energy and we are shocked that she has been taken from you so suddenly. We wish you strength in the coming weeks and months and our thoughts will be with you.
