It is with deep sadness, but also gratitude for her long and happy life, that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Ann Jackson at the age of 96, on May 12, 2023. Her two daughters were with her throughout, and she knew to the end that she was loved and cherished.

Mary Ann leaves behind family members, sister Marny Bimm (née Shipley); sister-in-law Shirley Shipley; daughter Adair Heuchan (Ross), and their three children, Jessica (Trent Pringle), James (Laura Jarzembecki) and Alexis; and daughter Sharon Jackson, with her two children, Jordan (Chrissy Virtue) and Cassidy (Daire Gregan). Added to her family in the last three years were great-grandchildren, Jackson, Quincy and Donnie. Mary Ann was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth (Ken) Jackson and her brother, George Shipley.

Mary Ann will be fondly remembered for her kindness, generosity, sense of humour, creativity and cheerful disposition. She had many friends, both in Canada and abroad, having supported Ken over the decades of his military postings. She seamlessly fit into diverse communities, and worked her sewing, decorating and culinary magic to turn every domicile where the family landed into a comfortable and welcoming home. Using her social skills, her volunteer work and her adeptness at making any guests she hosted feel welcome, she was an invaluable asset to her husband’s career.

The Jackson/Heuchan family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of her residence, Governors Walk, whose compassion, generosity and consummate professionalism were invaluable. We also send gratitude to the residents there, who care so much about each other. Likewise, we want to thank the staff and volunteers at Montfort Hospital, who expertly and compassionately helped her recover from a broken hip last December.

A celebration of Mary Ann’s life will be held in-person and virtually at the Beechwood Cemetery Reception Centre (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa), on Thursday, July 20 at 1:30 PM. Words of Remembrance will be shared at 2:00 PM. To register for the live stream please follow the link posted above.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Ottawa Food Bank or a charity of your choice in Mary Ann’s name.

Dear Shary and Adair and families,
I am so sorry for your loss. Mary Ann was a beautiful and dynamic woman. Both your parents were such a huge and loving part of my childhood.
My Dad also sends along his deepest condolences. He speaks lovingly of Ken and Mary Ann often.
sending love to you all,
